I think it might be, I don't think they would call it an 'exceptional press conference' if he was staying or moving teams.

I hope it's not retirement - even if it's not MotoGP, some GT3/Sportscar racing would be nice to see; and something he has talked about before.

I can’t see it being anything other than retirement although there have been some shock announcements that took everyone by surprise compared to what was expected. I think the way things have been worded and the lack of leaks is telling. Respect being shown from the press to allow him to be the one to break the news possibly.

Gutted as he brings so much happiness to the paddock, an absolute star that has entertained for over 25 years and conquered multiple machines and competitors, he will leave a legacy that is unlikely to be achieved again, both from a personal racing perspective and how he has looked to move the sport forward ...

Even though he's been on the wain last few seasons that's a big hole to fill.

Reading his press conference he's really coming across really dignified .

He did, I was watching on Twitter. Clearing out the press stage space to have just his stool in the middle looked odd at first, but it was only about him though so it suited in a way.

They did show Jack Miller in the back of the room watching him say his thing too.

The man has almost single handedly dragged GP bike racing into countless new homes, places, and made it an event a lot more people know about.

There has been controversy, but not as much as you might think for a man around this long and up front for pretty much his whole career.

Name one other sportsperson in a physical event at the top level for this long? Imagine for instance if Doohan had still been racing in 2009, that was only 20 years since his 500 debut!!

I also think he could still do a job if everything was right, but his time is done, he had it, it was staggeringly successful, and he became a household name the world over.

The fact he carried on showed for me it was never about money, he made all that ten times over, the fact he keeps so much of his kit, wants to run his teams, shows it was always about a passion for bikes, racing and winning and Italy.

I recall my only memory of him personally, Donington 1997, Day of Champs, in the pitlane, Rothwell doing stunts, I am on the wall watching, Rossi jumps up next to me, we exchange a glance and I say hello, he says hey back, jumps over the wall and wants to be the thing Rothwell is donutting round, a free spirit, who later races Haslam on a scooter, cut across the track at Craners to overtake and was also riding a sofa around later. I bought a basic sun and moon tee, I still have it, maybe one day it's worth a few quid, but I never buy merch!!, That is the effect this guy has.

He literally changed his sport, and not many can say that, perhaps only Roberts, Spencer, and now Marquez.

Rossi's epic career shows how much he liked being in Motogp.
But does seem like he waited till marquez had a run of disaster. The old I dont care if I win as long as you lose routine lol.
