I've just stuck some fuel in the bike and noticed that the pump said E10 after I finished filling it.

I've just looked at my handbook and it said NOT to use E10 as it can damage the engine etc.

It's a 2008 MY Kawasaki and according to this https://www.bennetts.co.uk/bikesocial/news-and-vie... my bike is compatible confused

Is it really a problem and should I just stick to super?

Cheers. It's just a bit concerning that my owners manual says otherwise!

I think any incompatibility with engine and E10 will only be by long term use.
I always look at the pump handle before I pull the trigger. I never go by which ‘holster’ the nozzle has been parked in.

Ok, I'll just go back to using super. It runs better on it anyway.

Thanks all

I believe I’m right in saying most of the damage e10 causes is to plastic fuel tanks and rubber seals and this happens if the bike is left sitting for long periods of time. If you use the bike regularly I wouldn’t worry, just use super from now on.

Plastic fuel tanks (MDPE) have been around for ages, and will continue to be so; I don’t think they will be an issue with E10. Fibreglass tanks may be an issue.

I had an MV Augusta F4 (MY10) and the tanks on those were notorious for not liking E5 - they would start to bulge. Mine was just starting to do it almost imperceptibly so I swapped over to Super. I suspect E10 would cause damage pretty quickly.

I’m sure Ducati’s early monsters/748/848/1098 and that kind of era had big problems with ballooning tanks from e5 also.

The pumps are being updated ready for E10 in September.

One of the main reasons I bought a 1299 instead of a 1198.

It seems that those motorcycle manufacturers that have links with, and the test and development resources from, automobile manufacturers are OK. I guess with super-grade higher octane being kept to E5, most will have an (expensive) solution.
