I would like to export my own 2000 Ducati 996 from Germany and import it into the UK.

The bike has belonged to me since 1 September 2020, and I am a UK citizen with a UK address.

Does anyone happen to know what I need to do in Germany, or what documents I need...before I export it ?

Thank you !

I have no idea regarding registering the bike in Germany

However, I do know (in case you don't) that you won't be able to export the bike as freight, without paying taxes on arrival in Germany.

Your best option to get it there, if you weren't planning on doing so already, is to ride it there, then re-register it.

Hi !

Thanks. I think I may have done a poor job explaining the plan.

I live in Germany and own the bike there, and plan to move to—and register the bike in—the UK.

Alternatively, I mis-read your post smile

You will still need to ride it over to the UK to avoid paying tax as freight.

This article seems to cover it

Bennetts have a guide but you're in for a potentially hefty Tax Bill as its under 30 years old ...

https://www.bennetts.co.uk/bikesocial/news-and-vie...

The NOVA declaration is the key piece as until thats done you can't get the documentation to get it registered.

What you need to do in Germany you'll need to discover separately as i suspect they need notifying of its export, same way DVLA would going the other way.

There are different rules if you are moving home (Transfer of Residence Relief).

you need to do an Abmeldung, at the Strassenverkehrsamt, just as if you were selling the bike

if you want to ride it to UK you need to get Ausfuhrkennzeichen (plate with a red block on it with the end date), which you'd get with insurance for a short term, 2 weeks or a month for example

I think you'd be best asking at the Strassenverkehrsamt if you need to do any kind of Zollerklärung (custom declaration) for exporting to non-EU country
maybe you'll get some Mehrwertsteuer back

but then you'd keep the Zulassung Teil 2 (old Fahrzeugbrief) and present that in UK

if you can read this in German:
