Old Gits 2022 – Northern Spain – Anyone Interested?

Old Gits 2022 – Northern Spain – 10/Jun/22 to 19/Jun/22
Following the cancellation of the trips in both 2020 and 2021 , the planning for the Old Gits 2022 trip is already underway. I think there is a light at the end of the COVID tunnel and so the trip bookings have started.
In 2022 we’re planning to finally get to Northern Spain for a week riding the roads of the Western Pyrenees and the Picos. If you’ve never been, the roads are superb, the weather in June is generally really good and the locals are friendly and welcoming.
The Itinerary is as follows:
Friday 10th June Portsmouth to Santander ferry, arriving on Sunurday 12th June.
The hotel NH Pamplona Iruña Park in Pamplona for 3 nights as a base to explore the Western Pyrenees.
Wednessday 15th June, move to the Gran Hotel España in Oveido in the Picos. 3 nights stay giving time to explore the Picos.
All hotel rooms are single occupancy and include breakfast. Twin rooms are available for any who would prefer to share. All ferry crossing include a single occupancy cabin.
Saturday 18th June Bilbao to Portsmouth ferry, arriving on the evening of Sunday 19th June
The costs for the above are:
Ferry - £756
Hotels - £400
If you are interested in joining us in Spain next year, or would like to know more about the trip, then please contact me ASAP as the ferries are already starting to fill up. Booking a space will require a non-refundable deposit.
The money you pay is entirely for your costs, both for ferry and for hotel. Nothing of what you pay is used to subsidise anyone else on the trip. All the arrangements and booking are done on a completely voluntary basis. You do, however, benefit from the group discounts that can be arranged.
While there are large groups on the trip this definitely does not involve large group ride outs or organised tours. It's just a group of people with the same interest who speak the same language in the same place at the same time. What you do when you are there and who you do and don't do it with is entirely up to you (and them).

I have contacted Brittany Ferries and motorcycle spaces in June 2022 are already running out. I now have 5 spaces reserved on the Thursday (09/06/22) ferry and some of those booked on the Friday ferry are keen to swap.
I can only hold these extra places for a little while. If you are either a Euro trip beginner or a well seasoned Euro traveller then the chances are you'd enjoy the trip.
If you would like to know more or would like to book onto the trip then PM me.

Only 2 places left remaining. The ferries for next year are filling up fast and Brittany Ferries will only hold those places for me until 12th August.

Would love to do this and have read previous years trip reports. I know you guys don't take a cut but the price of the ferry is crazy. Is it normally over 700 quid? I'm sure when I looked last year it was more like 500? Covid tax?
Imo the 800 mile run from Calais in a day looks more palatable. Could even make an IronButt out of it
Have fun guys and enjoy.

Thanks for the feedback. We normally get around a 10% price reduction on the ferry over the normal web price. Remember, the ferry cost includes a single use cabin both ways. I know many people are surprised just how much the ferry to Spain costs.
This question was raised by some others on the trip and as I'm a sad bugger, I costed up the cost of riding to Spain doing either a Calais or a Normandy crossing. When you actually include the ferry/tunnel costs, the fuel costs, the cost of overnight accommodation, tyre wear, tolls etc. the ferry becomes very competitive. My costings for Calias came in as:
Ojedo to Calais - £320.00 Distance 800
Fuel - £96.26
Tyres - £34.29
Chain/sprockets - £10.00
Servicing - £40.00
Tolls - £50.00
Ferry/tunnel - £40.00
Overnight stay - £50.00
The bike running costs were based on:
45mpg €1.30 per litre
Tyres - £300 Per 7000 Miles
Chain/sprockets - £250 Per 20000 Miles
Servicing - £250 Per 5000 Miles
You could save by not using toll roads through France but you'd be really pushed to do 800 miles without a second overnight stay if you did that.

As is often the case on the run up to a trip, things change and a place or two become available. We now have two places available on the trip to Northern Spain in June. If you're interested in the possibility of joining us enjoying the wonderful roads of the Western Pyrenees and the Picos then PM me.
I would highly recommend this trip. I've been on all of the tours since 2011 and always have a great time. You get the support and enjoyment of a load of like minded bikers as well as the ability to go off and do your own thing each day. Also no hassle of making the arrangements of the ferry or hotels. Price is as though you booked it yourself as black-k1 does not mark up any prices, you get the benefits of group discount (although he wouldn't say no to a beer at the hotel bar).
The Picos mountains in northern Spain have miles of pristine tarmac, on twisty roads which are deserted in the afternoon (and morning) sunshine while the locals have their siesta.
What better place to enjoy your bike without a motorway slog to get there (and back). This is a ready made trip for you and a mate to make up for the travel restrictions of the past two years - but you better get in quick.

Or indeed the rest of the Pyrenees. The Col du Tourmalet is in the Pyrenees National Park https://www.google.com/maps/place/Col+du+Tourmalet... and would be part of an easy day zig zagging over the Pyrenees from Pamplona on some fantastic roads, some very quick indeed.Passes in Pyrenees: https://www.komoot.com/guide/213066/mountain-passe...
Looking forward to it again, the last trip to Spain had some interesting food and great weather. It's the guaranteed sun that's nice, especially on the Spanish side of the Pyrenees which is warm and dry. Great antidote to UK weather !
One of the places is now taken but one is still available. If you want to ride the wonderful roads of Northern Spain without any of the effort required to book the ferry or somewhere to stay then this is ideal for you.
Both newcomers to Euro touring or those who have done many touring miles already are welcome. Likewuse, touring and sports bikes are both welcome. The bikes booked on the trip already include an S1000RR and a Panigale as well as a number of SD1290GTs, R1250GSs and, of course, a K1300S!
By using a hotel as a base for a number of days mean the local roads can be explored without having to drag luggage for a week with you. It also means that when you get back from a day on wonderful roads the bar will have a group who speak your language and share your interest and excitement.
If you'd like to know more about the trip then please drop me a PM.

Maybe one day!
I hope you have a great trip. They really are wonderful roads in Northern Span. Are you going with a group or on your own?
Beautiful towns a villages that most tourist don't get to see away from the coast. Always come back thinking why the hell do I live in the south east of England. Foods good too, just have to put up with euro fizz.
I'm so looking forward to it I even started fettling the bike last weekend in anticipation and there's still six weeks to go.

If you've not ridden it, I'd recommend the pw-530 https://www.myrouteapp.com/en/social/route/112693?... A wonderful fast, open road.
Let us know how you get on!
