After a bit of time away from bikes (Only passed my test 2 years ago I'm 35) I bought a 2016 CB650F and went a bit mental and believed I was a BSB racer all be it a chubbier version.........

Coming from M3s, Cosworths, Imprezas, Evos etc I went straight onto the bike and got fairly cocky and had a couple of near misses and always trying to keep up with my pals I decided to hand the road biking gloves before I was getting scooped up at the side of the road.

Anyway after being back on the Trials Bike for a couple of years 2016 300 Evo I was out with my director at his house on Monday and he said he wanted to go out on the bikes so insured me on 1 of his collection, I was a bit nervous to be honest.

1996 Suzuki GSX 400 Import (I expected it to be slow and boring if im honest) Very nice bike, yoshi bars, full yoshi system - It was used for dashing about the mountains in Japan and he then imported 8 years ago - Anyway it's in fantastic condition, I was a bit nervous about hitting the road again but after a few miles on the A701 I began to really enjoy it, the wee 400 is so revvy and such a laugh to ride, I have genuinely never smiled so much in my life and now with having a 14 month old and a new baby due in 6 weeks I have definitely calmed down.

When we got back he could see how happy I was and said to me he would sell me it for the sum of £1200 (It's got new tyres, sprockets, chain and only 9000 miles) it was a gamble as I have a bottle of whisky at auction and we agreed we would do a deal for what the bottle ended for that night and it made £1200 to which I only paid £125 for the bottle 4 week prior. But he has warned me he doesn't ever want me to sell it. It's sentimental as he's done the Isle of Mann TT and rode over the mountain etc but he wants me back on a bike, it would be nice to be a millionaire haha.

I'm back down the road to collect it on Saturday - He has included some panniers, trickle charger and paddock stand

Very very happy and can't wait to get going again as where I stay this will be great fun on the road

Looks a thing of beauty, I've never ridden one of these JDM 400s but they look and sound fantastic fun. I do like bikes where you can use all of the performance on the road (and in my case on track) without serious danger of ending up in a courtroom or running out of talent.

It is an eternal shame that Japan eased the licensing restrictions that brought us the JDM 400's and we won't see their ilk again.

We have an RVF400R and it is a truly glorious thing, I've been on track mixing it with the litre bikes and for a 27 year old bike it still holds its own (except in a straight line! rofl)

Anyway, I think pretty much all the 400's are lovely little things, better in many ways than their "bigger" counterparts.

Enjoy.

Aye it was great fun and to be honest I am not a fan of older bikes at all but this has changed my way of thinking.

Also the history of the bike is extremely interesting aswell.

Can't wait to get it up here on Saturday.

£1200?! Nuts. You lucky man! That looks an absolutely hoot! Probably revs like crazy, if I remember the 80s and 90s Jap 400s correctly.

Enjoy, I am most jealous!

I had been pondering about a GSXS750 but this just ticks all the boxes for me.

Just need to do more research on it now.

Ordered a new fork seal, oil filter and spark plugs for it.

Will get some proper pics when I get it up the road on Saturday.

That looks really good, and what a bargain!

Maybe something for me to consider once I've got my house move sorted, because I'll have a garage again. smile

Because it's not having one that has meant I haven't had a bike for 10 years now. frown

If he had said £3k I would of taken it to be honest, you know when you see something and just fall in love with it haha.

Not sure why but i believe its the colours, look and just noise it makes, not intrusive but just cool.

The wife is very shocked that I have gone for this type of bike but I believe i will have the most fun ever, it's perfectly suited to the roads where I stay (on the NC500)

Looking forward to tinkering with it and just having fun.

Lovely bike.... Same story (ish)... getting back into bikes after lengthy time away... and this pops up.

Honda CB1 - manufactured 1991, imported some time after. 400cc screamer with gear driven cams. Red line is 13.5k...

Well I got it back up the road on Saturday.

Stuck it for an MOT and it passed no bother at all.

I've taken it out a couple of rides already and it's great fun. Really enjoying it.

The fork seal as a very minor weep so I have ordered a pair of fork seals/dust covers and will do them next week as I'm off work

Definitely the most fun I have had on a bike

Have been mucking about with the bike in my garage and found it has

Yoshimura handlebars
Yoshimura Exhaust
Yoshimura Brake lines
Some bolted on Yoshi engine covers

I was speaking to a Japenese lad on one of the 90s bike pages who pointed me in the direction of a dealer in Japan who has sent me a load more info on the bike which I thought was pretty cool.

So the jobs to do

Service including spark plugs
Polish stuff
Fork seals
