Hi all,

So I've finally managed to get a Mod 2 test on 16th July!

Issue is I suspect the training school I'm with won't have a bike available and they are incredibly busy and I struggled for my Mod 1. I've rang but no reply yet.

Friend of mine has offered to loan me his Yamaha Thundercat for the test as a last resort. I was going to buy my own bike but the insurance doubles just to get 30 days of DAS cover.

Does anyone know of an insurer who would give me a reasonably priced policy for just 24hrs to do my Mod 2 test? My friend would ride the bike to the test centre and back (If I fail).

Thanks.

When I looked last year I couldn't find anyone doing short term insurance, however Bikesure did an annual policy which allows 60 days to pass the tests.

You could take this out then cancel within the 14 days.

Run into the same issue. No one offers this apart from as Kirkat mentioned, BikeSure, but only on a bike I own and the policy was... Well... expensive!

I've been quoted £163 on a 600 Hornet once I pass, BikeSure with the 60 day DAS cover was £377. Can't really justify that.

Luckily I found an alternative, rang every bike school in Nottinghamshire and found one willing to lend me a bike for Mod 2 provided I do 2 hours "Polish up" training in the morning... I took their hand off! As I suspected, my current school didn't have a bike available.

Why not just do a year and pay monthly...

Then cancel within your 14 days or whatever?

If I fail (I really, really hope I don't!!) that's the plan. I'll buy a bike, insurer it for the sky high premium and then take any test I find at any DVSA Centre in the Midlands.

Make sure you can show that you have brought the bike legally to the test, they do ask as soon as you say you haven’t got an instructor with you.

Ah yeah, covered that. Have a friend with a full bike license, if it comes to it, he has offered to ride it down. Probably be a bad idea to start the test by pissing off the examiner!

I have seen examiners call the police before. At Mitcham there was a guy who rode himself to test about three or four times: then they clocked what he was doing...

Can blame the examiner really, it's a stupid bloody thing to break the law in that way whilst going to your actual test.

I'm making sure its all legit, easiest way would be through a school but... Well that hasn't been made easy recently.

School I spoke with who have done me a massive favour to get me in on the 16th were less than complimentary about the school I did majority of my training with, apparently I'm far from the first person to ring them after being left in a similiar position. I don't want to slag off my current school, their training was superb, I just wish they were alittle more organised when it came to tests.

I used a company called tempcover for the day when I bought my new bike. It was about £30 for the day although I’ve already got a full licence.

Might be worth a look op?

Gave them ago but wouldn't cover a provisional bike license holder unfortunately.

Managed to pass.

Been running around on a Bandit 1200 for the past 6 weeks, love the bike despite its few little issues that I'm slowly resolving.

Congratulations. Is the same Suzuki in another thread that may've been losing/burning oil but wasn't?
