Had me Gen1 'Busa for over 20 years and still going strong but wondered whether the later Gen's are any better adn worth trading up to.

Anyone know?

It'll undoubtedly be better.

In what way it's better and whether that better is worth the significant extra expense is something you can only really answer for yourself.

My impression is the Hayabusa USPs have disappeared with the new model.

I was 16 when the original model was launched so I guess it's only natural I hold it in higher regard.

If you spent the difference between trade in value in upgrading your bike it would be significantly better than a new one (albeit worth less).

Man maths?

Is the OP's Gen 1 going to depreciate much more? Would the 'cost to change' amount of cash or credit they'd have to stump up cover the cost of another new motorcycle?

I started writing a post about why don’t you try something different if you’ve had it for 20 years then realised there really is nothing like it available today getmecoat

We do live in different times but the manufacturers are deciding what the punters want regardless. There is no competition for the new 'Busa which means there are no options to buy a hyperbike any more. There is not technical reasons why manufacturers couldn't make a 230-240bhp 1300/1400 motorcycle. Being the fastest/most powerful was the USP of the hyperbike but the only one remaining on sale has been neutered, in part, because it is the only one on sale.

Do manufacturers not make hyperbikes any more because they think such bikes won't sell? I suspect that's probably the case but, we'll not know if they will or won't sell if none are made. I also suspect the manufacturers are a little cautious of the "publicity" that would surround a 240bhp bike if one were to be launched but, for that, they need to grow a pair.

However, the average age of the riders of large capacity bikes is increasing. The ability to fold aging bodies onto ever shrinking sports bikes is decreasing. I'm sure that, in the way the caricature refined mature gentlemen moves from small agile sports cars to more powerful but comfortable GTs, many older bikers would like the option of choosing a hyperbike.
