Evening all, I am hankering after a CBR900 Firrblade, anything from a 1992 up to a 1997 model. I don't want to spend a huge amount on a pristine example, but have seen a few around with 35-40,000 miles on. How are these early bikes in terms of reliability and build quality? How easy are original spares to get hold of? I appreciate that a lot is down to previous owners etc, but is this something to walk away from, approach with caution or just grab hold of and enjoy?

Quality is cock on, they're about as good as Honda bikes get (regulator/rectifier excepted). Obviously they're carbureted, so there's no 'instant reliability' of a modern EFI bike, but if they're well set up they run beautifully.

40k, provided they've been serviced, is nothing - I've got a RRW at 40k and am doing a gentle rebuild to clean it and check valve clearances etc. The engine is as clean as a whistle inside..

Parts - a fair few are NLA now, so you do have to get creative at times.

That's good to hear. I did suspect that they were up to the job. I am happy to do a lot of work getting it up to scratch if needs be. I had one of these back in 1993 and loved it then and would just love to get another one.
