FP1 and Zarco has already been clocked at 256.4 kph (221.45mph) just 0.1 kph off the outright speed record from Mugello 2018 (Dovi)

Its funny how it is consistently Zarco who is clocking the highest speed on the Ducati.

I wonder if it is setup / riding style etc..

Michele Pirro (standing in for Rabat who was standing in for Martin) -

357.6 kph = 222.2 mph

And he did that with the bike this time.

Look how slow Morbidelli's bike is - https://resources.motogp.com/files/results/2021/IT...

Still finished the session 3rd though. Rossi 21st, saying he wants more grip. Well Morbidelli wants a 2021 bike so swap.

Something still not right with MM93.....

It makes me sad to think we might have already seen peak Marc Marquez. Looking forward to seeing how he performs at the anti-clockwise Sachsenring.

I think he won't be back to full strength until next year. He's still recovering. The mind and skill is there, but not the strength and stamina.

It has crossed my mind that the Marquez era could be over.

Love Mugello.

Zarco being good at top speed must be a function of aero, weight and riding style I guess? Think I recall the speed trap is actually after they start braking at Mugello (might have made that up).

Marquez comments regarding not using the holeshot device at Mugello are interesting:

Who else is loving Silvain Guintoli on BT sport, great to have input from somebody with genuine up to date knowledge.
Hope he's there for the rest of the season, great down to earth guy, wouldn't get many Moto gp test riders and ex world champions turning up at a trackday on their own with their bike in a van as seen on his Youtube vids.

Yes, I prefer him to Crafar and Laverty.

I like Laverty but I'm very pleased to see Guintoli join the team.

Crafar not so much.

I didn’t see the hole shot bit, but it does seem that NM is still in enough pain during a race weekend that he is considering stopping, again.

Surely the pain suggests his shoulder is still not fully healed and he risks knackering it for life?

He's suffered a lot of muscle atrophy in his shoulder. He posted some pictures a couple of weeks ago and it's visibly smaller than his other shoulder. If he can get the muscle back (and I don't see why not although it won't be easy) that should help.

I think the MM era is over. The shoulder is not going to recover from this to the level where we will see the supremely confident Marquez of old. He has already stated if he can’t fight for wins he will retire as he doesn’t want to be like Rossi fighting for a 15th place finish. I know it’s still relatively early days , but it’s a very competitive stage now and without being 100% fit then just turning up at a track and being MM does not hand you an automatic win.

His YouTube channel is very good also, I picked up some very good track riding tips from it.

Zarco's Shark helmet is also a little bit more like a velodrome cycling one, with a comparatively long tail. Might add a bit to his cause.

Think it could be a Ducati 1-2-3, but apparently rain is forecast for 2pm on Sunday...

Marquez's comments suggest he is a long way from being fully fit, and unfortunately might take some time to be so. This year looks like being a write off for him in terms of the title: he doesn't seem to have the strength for a dry race win.

Brad Binder equalled Zarco's outright speed record (that was set in Qatar) in FP3 today - https://resources.motogp.com/files/results/2021/IT...

362.4 kph = 225.18 mph

On an uphill straight !

Moto3 rider Jason Dupasquier is reported to be in a very serious condition after qualifying today, there was a moment when he high-sided and Sasaki went over his bike and crashed the TV attention went to Sasaki and when he got up everything seemed ok, they even showed a replay. But later the caption said 3 bikes were involved and Jeremy Alcoba on the side of the track. When the red flag was thrown Gabriel Rodrigo slowed down and right behind him was Alcoba who jinked right as Rodrigo slowed and he went down, it seems likely he hit Dupasquier who was still on the track.

What are peoples views on tagging on in qualifying?

Obviously Marc chasing Mav today that’s made me ask, I don’t see a problem, for me it’s no different to watching out for someone’s weakness and taking advantage of that. Everyone has the same opportunity to take advantage in such a way and lots of people do it, just not quite as ruthlessly as #93

Tagging on is fine. I like the needle and mind games it generates sometimes.

Hanging around getting in the way waiting to tag on is taking the piss. Obviously a fine line to be tread, but it's quite clear when it happens.

Moto2 and Moto3 have rules to stop it. Hasn't been deemed necessary in MotoGP yet. The draft is much more powerful in Moto3 so it's been more prevalent.

I just wish the (dorna channel) commentary would stop incessantly apologising every time MM does it. Yes we know it's legal, believe me we know. It doesn't mean MM isn't being a massive vagina.
