Anyone here tried the quadlock weatherproof head thing? I need to find an alternative to plugging it straight in off the USB connection and it getting wet. Have been stuck in the highlands before with no phone charge and a moist phone charging port!

Its one of these https://www.quadlockcase.co.uk/collections/accesso...

No but I'm interested in feedback. I have a quadlock case and use a mount in the car and on my mountain bike but am finding it a hard pill to swallow to get one of these waterproof charging widgets AND the antivibration mount which would be needed on my motorbike. It's getting on for £90 for a bloody charging phone mount..

Versus something like this: https://ultimateaddons.com/pages/motorcycle or this https://www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorcycle_parts/...

Haven't used one but I researched this topic thoroughly when I was pondering how to use my phone.

Appears to be a good solution, other than it requires you to use their case - I would have had to dump my phone case with cartoon rainbows and unicorns printed on it, which I bought for Brexit and use one of their plain grey ones. You should buy the vibration damper to avoid damaging your phone camera and you need a switched power supply.

I use the Ultimate Addons Universal case

It's pretty basic but it works and is easy to switch between bikes

Bought mine for half price which TBH still felt like too much

Ive had my ultimateaddons case for a few years now and used it home and away on all of my bikes, in some very wet weather, no problems with that or any of the USB power sockets ive used, most recent being a BMW twin port item.

Im in the same boat that I'd like the wireless charging head but at sixty quid, and I'd need 2 or 3 of them im pausing until someone convinces me it's worth it over just using a cable. The cable is needed to be run to power the head anyway.

I am sold on quadlock though in general, i have three of the bike mounts, a bicycle mount, the office mount, the wall mount, loads of adaptors. Great system, just pricey

OP - I'm guessing from your user name that you run a SuperDuke?

With an unfaired bike I think that getting a waterproof case makes a lot of sense. Even with a faired bike I ended up with an Interphone waterproof case and a USB cable plugging in to it. That's worked for me through some fairly nasty weather. But it is behind the fairing which makes a big difference to minimise the amount of water getting in.

Potentially use that set up and then add vaseline around join between the rubber USB seal and the USB cable joint..? Tough to know what else might work.

I thought most phones were pretty waterproof these days?

I've ridden in torrential rain with a regular case and never had any issues.

I think the issue is charging the phone whilst riding.

Ah OK. I was going to get a quadlock now that they have fixed the vibration issues, and just run a cable from the bike.

One of the biggest differences in recent years is any phone which can fast charge - the power of them are high enough that if they were to arc through a damp plug they could cause some nasty damage to the phone and/or charger, so most phones will now sense when they're wet and stop charging.

That seems to be a major issue with Android phones. I haven't seen it yet on an iPhone.

Not sure why they don't as it's the same technology

Quad lock works well on my Versys.

Haven't had any issues with charging it on the go but I've not used the charger whilst it's raining heavily.

Don't know. Android phones seem to have a fit with a bit of moisture. I've dropped my iPhone deep into a muddy puddle, and charged it in torrential rain, never given me any issues.

After some deliberation and the help of this thread, I've bought a Quad Lock mirror mount and anti vibration mount. £41 after the usual 10% discount. Couldn't bring myself to buy a waterproof charging adapter for an additional £70 and will just use a cable into the onboard 12v socket on the Tenere.

I am already in the Quad Lock eco system with my phone case, MTB and Car mount so for me it didn't make sense to get anything else in the end

I could not handle that. Black bike cockpit. Black phone. White charging cable!

I passed my test in 1993. Not long after, I rode from reading to peterborough to the bike BMF rally. I also rode to cornwall, wales, all over. I used those big things by the side of the road, called ROAD SIGNS. They tell you where to go, they are quite good, and of course are paid for by road tax.
I never got lost. once or twice I took a wrong turn and found some amazing roads.
I find I'm much less likely to crash, if I'm looking where I'm going, rather than at a phone.

If you have got an SDR and go down the Quadlock route be sure to buy the anti-vibration mount as I've heard iPhone cameras tend to bork themselves on the SDR for some reason.

My IPhone camera is broken after less than half a dozen rides with a quadlock ! I’ve just upgraded to a new phone and bought the anti vibration damper at the same time. Pretty bloody poor they can sell a phone mount that wrecks a phone is such short time.
