Have a 1996 Rs 125 which I restored a few years ago which I had the frame and swingarm powder coated chrome. I’m thinking of stripping the bike down and restoring it again as it’s been slightly neglected and is showing signs of corrosion from being in the shed under a cover for 4 years. Can I send the frame off to have the powder coating removed so the frame is back to its natural finish? I’m not sure of the process in the initial powder coating process so unsure if I can get the frame back to its natural finish. I could just buy another frame but as all engine and frame numbers match I’d like to keep it that way .

Normally it would be dipped and / or blasted so it would come back as bare metal which you'd have to paint or re powder coat

Painting is generally more expensive these days

It’s an aluminium frame , would this be able to be polished back to its normal finish once the powder coating has been removed?

That depends how they prepped / strip it

If it was / is blasted then it could need a lot of work to polish it back I'd ask the blasters themselves as different media produces different results - shot / glass / walnut / vapour etc

Having recently tried to strip powder coating from a footrest hanger, it's bleedin difficult so it'll probably take some heavy duty blasting to get it off.

I used a wire brush on a drill then one on an angle grinder, heat from a soldering torch and rough sand paper and it got about half of it off. In the end I just painted it and the one on the other side black
