Road legal bikes banned from certain roads due to noise
Discussion
Austrian region Tyrol have decided to ban non-modified motorbikes that have static (as in not being driven) noise level above 95 db from certain popular routes.
Equally loud cars and trucks are not banned.
It’s interesting that banning road legal vehicles is in itself legal.
I’m unhappy about this. You?

I honestly couldn't care less. What's your angle? Are you positing some scenario in which a keen-eyed DfT drone mentions it to a junior minister and suddenly you can't ride through your local town?Equally loud cars and trucks are not banned.

His angle could be.If this is a noise issue then why are cars, lorries and other vehicles not banned.
Only motorcycles?

Good imho - there is a certain level of shriek that penetrates the countryside from bikers opening it up, that really is unnecessary IMHO.
Either you didn't read the OP, or you are stupidThis is for STANDARD bikes - none of them shriek and if noise was an issue then why are ONLY bikes banned, not other vehicles that are AS LOUD / LOUDER.

And perhaps I am stupid.
Or perhaps as pointed out, the scream of a bike - standard or not, is not fking welcomed by generally anyone outside of a the helmet that is hurtling down the road.
VW' had cars that pass the emissions tests. I don't doubt for a moment there are shennanigans to make a motorbike pass a noise test - yet howl away under throttle.
As an aside, putting words in capitals very rarely displays a sense of articulation desired.
Perhaps you were not hoping for opinions on this thread you started - and I apologise if that was the case.
Therefore I offer : "I agree with you"
If you wanted to just have a grumble and rally support for this heinous act of the Authorities, without any come back, I suggest Twitter is your medium.

For everyone who likes hearing a bike screaming up the road a mile away, there will be ten who wish they couldn't.
+1. Loud motorcycles – standard or not – do motorcycling considerable harm. We already have enough people who would happily curtail motorcycling, and loud bikes only add to their number. If manufacturers made quieter motorbikes – preferably with higher MPG to win the eco-argument too – then we'd have significantly more friends.

Also, as others have mentioned, why stop with 95 db? Why stop with motorbikes?

Have you any evidence to support your theory that manufacturers are cheating the system? I would of thought the fines Vw have had to pay out would be unaffordable for motorbike manufacturers and sent a clear message.

Just like the roar of a classic car engine... or the stink of it’s exhaust. Most people don’t like them.. better they were crushed.Would you recommend banning old/classic cars?

Now who is the one being S.......Would you recommend banning old/classic cars?
Bikes with or without standard or modified exhausts wouldn’t be banned or thought of banned if they were not too loud, would they ?
The problem exists. Or action wouldn’t be taken

For many people old cars are filthy things... a problem exists with air pollution. Should they be banned?
These bikes are not “too loud”...in as much as they have passed all current legal requirements. There is no insinuation that the bike manufacturers have cheated.
