Well as it looks like I’ll be out of (biking) action for the next twelve months or so, what are the PH BB collective’s thoughts on the “now not just a concept, it’s being made, Husqvarna Norden 901”, due to be released in 2021? I know it’s a bit of a “How long is a piece of string?” type question, but I really like the look of it and the specs seem good to me as well.

It’s rumoured to be using the 890cc from the 2020 KTM 890 Duke R, 790 KTM Adventure frame, with 21 inch front wheel, 18 inch rear wheel and WP suspension front and back. Pricing is supposed to be around £11,000.

I really, really like the looks of it and it obviously meets my “Scandiphile” criteria (I know it’s Austrian, really). The upright riding position looks good to me as well and I like the fact it’s something a bit different from the usual BMW/Triumph/V-Strom offerings.

I also really like the Vitpilen and Svartpilen bikes, but I think this would suit me better. I’ll be using it for commuting and more trips to Scandinavia. I want to try and get onto a few more of the smaller gravel roads out there and while I “managed” them on my Tiger 1050 and Explorer, it looks like this would be more suited.

Anyway, pictures.

I’ve ended up with different leg lengths, due to the lack of “extension” available on the rail and some of the realignment. As much as I’ve tried to get on with heel cups, insoles and currently a built up shoe, it’s a pain in the arse, so I think I’m going to bite the bullet and have more surgery to lengthen the already lengthens femur again. I’m waiting until at least July as I want a bit of “normality” and we’ve got tickets to go and see Kings of Leon in the Netherlands at the end of June. I don’t really fancy doing that with a frame and limited mobility.

I think it looks cool as a cucumber, if I had to pick an adventure bike that'd probably be it (or a lower capacity multi Strada in an ideal world, more expensive though at 13 grand for the 950S)

I am also very exited about this bike, but I just dont think it will be 11k. Looking at the prices of the KTM 790 ADV R (12599) and even the old tech Triumph 800XC-whatever also being over 12k, I'd be very surprised if this is not at least 13.

I think even at 13 grand I’d still be interested. The new Triumph Tiger 900 GT Pro is listed at £12,800, which is about the spec (for that particular model) I’d be interested in.

My previous bike was a 2014 Triumph Explorer 1215, which by the time of my accident in 2017 was already at least three years old, tech wise (it was the second generation of the Explorer and that model has also moved on a couple more iterations since then), so the newer/current crop of stuff has a lot more gubbins to play with.

As it’s realistically going to be another 12 months or so until I’m riding, things may have moved on even more, but I am looking forward to seeing the new Husky in the flesh - I’m tempted to go to the London show as it’s rumoured to be there...

It's a good looking thing for an adventure bike, must admit I was thinking of opening my wallet in the summer for the new V-Strom but this looks better.

Well I wish you the best of luck and care sir. I think I'd make the same decision.

Thanks Lukas. It’ll be a bit of “short term” (lolz) faff, but I’m hoping it’ll make things easier in the medium to long term. It seems a bit crazy to have gone through three years of stuff and it not be quite right, where six more months will make it much better. Hopefully...

A quick faff around on the Triumph configuration shows the Tiger 1215 XRt as something like £14,000. Add the “extras” (panniers, bars, sump guard, yada yada yada) and it’s nearer £18,000... same with the new 900. Base price for the GT Pro is £12,800. Add the equivalent bits and it’s nearer £15,000. So even a start price of £13,000 for the Norden starts looking “doable”.

Something else I want to look at is the Royal Enfield Himalayan. I just wonder whether it’d have enough poke for a lardy fat knacker like me...

What about the Moto Guzzi V85 as well? A bit less power than the KTM engine, but still has 80-odd hp V-twin which should be thrashable and plenty torquey.

I had a sit on one at MC Live and it seemed like a nice bit of kit and well built.

That does look amazing. Is that a split screen arrangement or is the top one a phone? I can't tell.

It’s on the list too. Nathan Millward (the guy who rode the “Postie bike” back to the UK from Australia) has just got one and seems to like it.

The one in the red/yellow colour scheme looks great.

I think it’s a split screen dash thing. It’ll be interesting to see just how close to the concept the actual bike is. Although the production versions of the Vitpilen and Svartpilen were both actually pretty close to the concept.

Yes, like these Huskys - the Svartpilen and Vitpilan 401's are reduced to £3999 at the moment as well. Stonking value if you needed a city bike.

I have indeed! Just got a blue one, 240 miles on the clock so far. Yeah I like it (don't love it yet but it's a grower). Something a bit different. Feels pokey enough although obviously still running it in. I don't think I'd ever see it as an off-road focused adventure bike but for Tarmac and bits of gravel I think it'll be a good bike. This Norden does look the part though, and given the way prices are going it'll definitely up near £14k I would have thought, if not more. Ridiculous amounts of money for those new Triumphs especially.
