2 questions if so. Does your bike's battery handle the fairly big drain the Datatool seems to produce and if so, is the only way to avoid flattening the battery to keep it plugged in to a trickle charger forever? Or should it be able to cope with a week or 2 by itself?
Secondly, the maintenance-free sealed batteries. Is it okay to charge them with a conventional battery charger?
Thanks.
One of my bikes fitted with a Datatool seems to drain the battery very quickly if i don't ride for a short while and the alarm is armed which it does anyway, regardless.

Every datatool alarm I have had has flattened the battery, either remove it or fit the disabling plug, alarms are a waste of time on a bike.

I am thinking the same now.

Left mine for a month and the battery was fine.
I hate the bloody thing though where do you get the blanking plugs?

Blanked mine off when it malfunctioned, luckily I was at home and not on an overseas trip. Total pita and I'm glad it's gone. A buddy had the same thing and had an auto electrician remove his.

Mine has to sit on a trickle charger, or else goes flat.

My Ducati seemed to need a very healthy amount of battery to turn it over or it would just click. I could usually leave it for 5 days and it would be ok. That was with a datatool and biketrac. Was a pita though if ever you were working on the bike to stop it arming itself every 5 seconds or whatever it is.

I had a Meta alarm on my bike for about ten years until it gave up the ghost. I had to stick it on the Optimate fortnightly to keep the battery topped up (left it on until the lights went green). Removing the alarm was the best thing I ever did, no more need to keep charging every two weeks and alarms on bikes are a bit pointless in today's culture.

Plugs can be bought on ebay or just make up a couple of loops to do the same thing, it's really simple.

Remove and burn it. Bloody annoying things

If you want security put a visible lock on it and a tracker

I came away from bike alarms a long time ago. More grief than its worth and had a few mates now gone to meet for a 7.30-8am Sunday morning ride only to have their bike flat. Trickle charge is a must for them unless you ride a few times a week to keep juice in the battery

I’ve had two S4 red alarms and have never had any issues, but have heard a lot of bad experiences.
If you’re laying the bike up and have other security, why don’t you put the alarm into winter mode? This draws the absolute minimum of power from the battery.

My T595 came with a Datatool alarm system (maybe an Evo II, if memory serves). It was fking st, draining the battery and needing a trickle charger hookup. In the end, worry about the battery pushed me to get the alarm gutted (as I couldn't find a blanking plug to fit). I was always worried of losing the one alarm fob I had, as even the local Datatool dealer said they didn't have the materials available to programme a new fob for the system!

Useless load of ste. I keep the bike on a CTEK, but with no alarm and a Motobatt AGM battery it starts without worry.

Bit of an aside, but I’ve just programmed a new fob (and a new H.I.S.S. Spare key) with instructions from the internet and no special tools. Not an EVO mind you.

Simple fix is to call up Datatool and they will send a code to your bike disabling the device so there is no power drain. My RT1250 would last 2 days (without active subscription to Datatool)- now lasts weeks. Also a Noco NLP14 is a good, low cost Lithium battery replacement for the stock BMW- fits straight and kicks engine like a mule
