I prefer mounted rather than helmet cams, but would go for a helmet cam if small

Any recommendations?

Drift Ghost X is your friend ....

https://driftinnovation.com/collections/cameras-ne...

Small enough, easy to mount / dismount, good quality etc .....

Been using various drifty cameras for years ....

Hypothetically speaking does it not concern you that should you speed it could be used as evidence against you?

Obviously we dont need ever and there are many benefits of having a camera on the bike in case a idiot driver/pedestrian/Lycra wearing cyclist comes across but it always concerns me

A small capacity sd card would only save a few minutes of riding if you're worried about self incrimination.

This is currently the best dedicated fixed motorcycle dashcam on the market

That only depends where you mount it .......

Not for me, its for my 17 year old who's already had two accidents. The first was definitely his fault, rear ended someone at a traffic light when they stopped suddenly
The second he swears wasn't his fault but turning into a 'he said, she said' type argument that it looks like he is going to lose due to being an L plate. From day one he's has a front and rear camera on the bike, but both times when you try and look at the footage its useless due to corrupted files or SD card full despite being designed to roll over.. retrospectively cheap Chinese tat.

I'm not keen on helmat mounted cams because I think they are unnecessarily dangerous to the head, but I'm starting to mellow on that to get a bullet proof image.

I'd also like it as a teaching tool every so often to review footage with him.

Another reason not too keen on helmet cams because they have a chance of not being turned on, when a bike mounted cam will come on with ignition

sure a number of police forces now have a website where you can upload video of someone from a dash cam and get them done

I've seen them recommended a few times, I looked into them for the car (they do a longer-cable version) and I think they look great value.

I’ve always found the vibration makes the footage unusable when mounted to the bike. How will the innovv get around that problem?

I have a Sena 20S which is an excellent intercom, seriously thinking of replacing it for one of these instead;

A few recommendations for Innovv. The good news is it's inconspicuous fitted, takes decent video and best of all switches on and off with the bike. I was forever forgetting to switch on or turn off my GoPro so missed some great footage but also got hours of my garage wall!

The bad news is the sound quality is sh!te - at least on mine. When I contacted Innovv they kindly send an external microphone FOC, but the sound is still rubbish. I've tried relocating the unit, using an external mic and even recorded with the bike off...and the sound quality is still dire. it may just be my unit, but now my emails to Innovv to get this resolved are going unanswered so I guess I have to live with it. So as a device to record video of incidents it's fine - but if you want to record rides with proper bike sound a GoPro gives far better audio results.

I think you need a separate sound recorder that you sync up when editing video footage

I now just clip on the GoPro if it's footage I want so share from part of a ride, and the Innovv stays there for 'incident recording', but I wouldn't use its footage to share as the sound's so poor. No idea why a wee GoPro can record decent sound even in the wind, while the Innovv can't - even when the mic is hidden away out of all wind noise. I'm not keen enough to mess about with editing/merging videos and sound - especially when the GoPro footage is fine, Just a shame the Innovv sound recording is so poor.

The DV688 is less than half that and seems to offer the same twin camera setup. I have one of their single cams in the car and it seems to work well although I haven't had to rely on it in anger yet.

Lots of places sell it but here's an Amazon link for info:

Luckily I'm his dad. Stuff I tell him has a low burden of proof because he respects me.

You obviously not so much. But that's fine because I don't care whet happens when you fall off your bike smile.

BTW he crashed on his test. Apparently he crashed at the point where you have to do 30mph then a quick left right through cones. He explained that when he tried to counter steer as the instructor taught him the front wheel let go.

So in the spirit of passing on my knowledge and when I was buying him a new helmet to replace the one damaged I told him to ignore anyone who talks about counter steering cos its cobblers
