Seeing as there's a few of us here that have a dabble with racing (most of you more successfully than me), and both MTB and McKeen recently got their race licenses, I thought it was about time we had a thread for it for race reports and pics
I'll start out with listing what i have coming up this year
July 15th - Oulton Park - NoLimits Racing Club 1000's
July 29th - Donnington Park - NoLimits Racing 1000km Endurance

Who are you racing with at the 1000km Donny event!??
I think Graham (Hebegebe) and Tony (Fleegle) are on that one. I tried to get a couple of fast pals insterested but one is too busy and the other is away working.

Myself and two friends : Richard Hayne and Matthias motzek
We're similar paced there, so not looking for any silverware, but hope to have fun and be consistent
I may have a wildcard 4th member on the team that can do 1:31's around there, but not sure he'll be able to do 950 of the 1000km's and the rest of us just getting our podium speaches ready
Hi All , yep , doing the NL Doni 1000kms July 29th with Fleegle ( Tony ) and Simon ( the late great Loon ) , but Im doing Oulton solos , NL again , on Sat 15th ( Newcomer 1000s) test day Friday 14th before the big Doni run ....
We did Anglesey 500 Kms 10th June and although showed last of finishers ( 27th ) once results amended - the grid started with 37 and a few who we were ahead of after losing about 15 laps due to mechanicals , didn't put their bikes into parc ferme, so as to be excluded - sour grapes but hey ho - we finished and progressed and really bloody enjoyed it - racing in the wet , then damp , then dry , over 80 laps each - was awesome !
Anyway .....,
Neil , as we are just running three riders , if you remember my mate Jason the pilot from the IOM , he is looking for a ride / team to possibly jump on with - he's fast now , riding a 675 and going well doing various clubs one offs both over here and at Jurby ....
I can give him your number if you want at all - or you his ...
you will then of course beat us , but that's not really the issue !

How do you guys get on for fitness during the endurance races? I know I can keep a reasonably consistent pace in a track day session of 20 minutes but not much more and even that can be a struggle as I don't really do any exercise.
How long are the stints that you do and can you keep a consistent pace during that time?

I've only done the 1 endurance race and that was at Oulton with the artist formally known as Loon. We agreed to 30 min spells on the bike and while we perhaps could have done a little extra, I think that worked well for us. We were certainly pleased to see the pit lane! How long are the stints that you do and can you keep a consistent pace during that time?
Lap times were fairly consistent, with traffic more often than not dictating any dips. We both did 3 stints each with the second session probably being our strongest.
As for exercise, can you please explain this alien concept

Strategy and plans ( half hour stints) pretty much dissolve the moment a crisis occurs - I started on the wet but drying track ,on full wets ,with the little cross track jog and off, to do thirty minutes or so,after which Simon went out gambling on his dry tyres (full slicks - as some of the others ,National teams etc were doing) , only for him to come slithering back in having been more sideways than straight for a lap, so had to quickly kit up and go out again, they called me in once they had changed his wheels back to wets, after about 12 minutes, and out he went for a good 35 minute stint....How long are the stints that you do and can you keep a consistent pace during that time?
we rotated at this, with pit stops down to 27 seconds in to out, with the transponder swap, but of course, all pretty meaningless once you have had a gear linkage hanging off costing about 13 laps and then, once fettled, but not quite spaced enough, to have it stuck in fifth, coming in for another three laps worth of spacing and out again....
I think the stamina , which neither of us struggled with, running consistent times, came from adrenalin, a very powerful drug, but with the big come down the other side, however, there was enough for us to be doing over the 4.5 hours to keep us at it and for Doni, with three of us for 8.5 hours, it will be a stretch again, but water, bananas and crisps seem to do the trick !
See you soon Tom.
I had a race license for a year in 1997 can I join in? LOL
In all seriousness I got it so I could do ACU Practice days when they used to have road bike sessions, went along with my mate who was racing TZR250s in Bemsee and New Era clubs back then.
I got to have my first taste of track action with a nice wally orange bib on a relatively empty circuit - whilst I enjoyed it I didn't ever take it any further than that.
