chaps, I know the 600 needs to be revved, but mine seems to need about 5K before waking up - is this normal?
Next point, in 2nd & 3rd gears there is occasionally a jolt at about 10,000rpm. Is this a fuelling fault, or possibly a gearbox problem?
Basically I have 6 weeks warrenty left - should I take it back and buy a brand new 636 (only cost me a grand more)... or what?!
cheers, Carl.

quote:Yes, if its one of the 99/00 models then there is a bad flat spot around there, a new can and re jetting will fix it. The injected bikes shouldn't have a flat spot as such, just there isn't much below 6-7k.

quote:I'm suprised you went for a sports 600 after the torque monster you had last, if your going to trade it in, why not for a blade or 9r ?

quote:Has it got the standard can and air filter on? Maybe your plugs are just getting on a bit.

Sounds like you're going to get bored of a 600 and that you should consider a 2nd hand blade or similar.

Well I wanted the handling of a 600, without the running costs of a 900 or 1000cc machine (tyres, chain).
To be fair, the xjr was nice to ride, but not exactly the sharpest handling machine - and I like corners to be crisp and exciting. Not wallowy and nervous.
I would have been happy with the cbr, had this apparent flat spot not been there. It's a fine machine otherwise.
Reckon I'd get bored with anything in about a year, so it makes little difference !

quote:Anyone who knows me will tell you I get bored of everything I buy very very quickly indeed. When I got my zx6r I thought it was the fastest, most evil bike ever invented and within a year I was bored of it and thought it was absolutely gutless and way too slow. I traded it in against a y2k blade last april and have done 10000 miles on the blade since. It still amazes me even though I ride it every day to get to work, the handling is unbelievable (much better than the 6r) and the power is just fantastic.

I have not found the blade to be any more expensive to run than my zx6r. The tyres have actually lasted longer (6000 miles for a rear compared to 5000, probably because it skids around a lot less) and the rears are only 10-20 quid more anyway. I haven't had to buy a chain set yet but having looked into it they aren't much more expensive. The servicing costs exactly the same. The insurance this year is actually less for the blade than I used to pay on the zx6r but I think I just got a very good deal. The only aspect where the blade is worse than the zx6r is the tank range (150 vs 120 miles).
