Sorry if it's been done to death but a quick google couldn't confirm what I'm after.

Me and my brother are finally getting our arses into gear and going to watch the GP at Silverstone, so we are obviously wanting the best, reasonably priced stand.
Main criteria is a roof, incase of rain and a screen as you see more on TV than you do trackside. Any suggestions welcome as well as any other info.
We plan on just heading down from Northumberland by Saturday night, couple of beers in hotel then along to track for race day. Anyone know what the circuit queues will be like, 1 hour, 2 hours? We are travelling by car.

Cheers.

I would say Luffield. Closest to the track a good view. All the other gs are more remote.

At home, in front of the telly, with a beer and a decent dvd.

Silverstone is st for bike racing and st for spectators.
And it's in engand, so it's going to piss with rain.

HTH.

Cheers Tone, is there a screen at Luffield too?

Thanks Rubin. Couldn't agree more to be honest but I've been promising my bro for years that we'd go to a live race before Rossi retires. We'd much rather make a weekend of it and go to Spain or Mugello but time and money are tight this year.

Donnington would be better and a damn sight nearer. wink

I've always found silver stone to be a great track for watching, the facilities are brilliant, never had a bad event there in my opinion. I love brands and donnington etc but donning ton can't compete with silverstone for the whole event,
Donning ton would have been good if they had the moto GP this year, but I wouldn't want to go!
I refer going there in the 90s and there was about 1 shower and bog for 1000 people, the food and drink was ste as well.
Going to the moto GP for me is about the whole event, not just Sunday's race.

I'd say Luffield/Woodcote for a balance of proximity & facilities. Unless you can snag the top deck at the Snoozebox on Wellington straight - were you have TV, beer, atmosphere, close view & a roof over your head.

Guess where I'll be...

I actually watched last years race a few weeks back and a lot of the overtakes happened in the village complex.

Good info lads, much appreciated.

Booked our travel inn tonight. Rugby North. 19 miles north of Silverstone. Has a one of those crappy beef eater type pubs on site so ok for a beer or two before.
Will book the grandstand tickets by weekend. Interesting that Woodcote is mentioned as it stood out as maybe a good spot, when I had a quick butchers at an ariel view map last week.

I don't want to be on a straight that's for sure. Woodcote or Luffield it is.

Last thing then, queues. How bad? What time should I am to be at the circuit for on the Sunday. I'm thinking leave hotel at 6.30. Brekkie en route, circuit by 8am. Does that seem ok.

Is paddock access only for pass holders/VIPs? If so 8 maybe too soon. I don't want to be sitting around bored until the moto 3 race.

Anyway, thanks again. smile

I watched at Luffield last year , not bad at all.

As for queues , we left our house near Newbury at 7am by car , and was seated in the stand by 8.30!

Just as easy on the way out.

We went in 2013 and getting out was a nightmare they sent all the traffic thru dadford village rather than striaght on the dual carriageway.

2014 we camped there and had a meal before we left at 7 and drove straight out no problems.

If you haven't got pit passes you've got no chance of getting in there so i wanted get there too early.

Ok, cool. I thought as much Egor. Probably leave hotel at 7-7.30 then.

I'm really looking forward to the moto 3 race actually. Great stuff at the minute.

Cheers.

If you've never been before try and get to hanger straight just before stowe, they'll be going flat out down there , also go to just before becketts ( from copse direction) that's pretty much as near to the track your going to get.

Going to be a great atmosphere this year with kent/lowes all able to win and smith/crutchlow possible podium hopes.

Becketts. Bit far back but good view of a lot of the track. Particularly as close to right hand side of stand ( as you enter) as you can get.

A quick question without creating a new thread.

Do the Grandstand tickets include admission ie would I need to buy a General Admission ticket plus a Grandstand?

It's included .

Which grandstand are you going for?

To be honest gp is nowhere as busy as f1 , if the forecast is good i'd go general admission take a comfy chair and you'll have loads more room than in the grandstands.

Stowes a good corner as they all try and outbrake each other at the end of hanger straight and clubs also good.

Whatever silverstone charge for parking you can park at dadford farm campsite for £5 and it's about a 10 min walk to the club corner entrance.

I normally have a wander around and watch from a few different places rather than getting a grandstand ticket. Last time I went I watched the Moto GP on the outside of Copse, the Moto 3 between Luffield and Brooklands (as it was near the exit to get to my bike) and the Moto 2 race along the Hangar Straight and into Stowe. It was very wet though and that was the only thing I find a grandstand useful for, if it is covered of course!

The left side of the woodcote corner grandstand, you get a great view looking down the main straight, as well as the final corner complex.

Either Luffield stand as you can see the big screen, the toilets are opposite and the trade and food stand are right there as well.

You're handy for the bike park as well if you want to make a quick getaway.
