Was thinking to myself why has no one made Kevlar underwear?

The same type and coverage most jeans have but of course with this you can wear mostly normal clothes. No need to have just one pair of bike jeans - this makes any pair of trousers wearable on a bike.

Turns out it's already been done: http://www.amazon.com/Draggin-Liners-Size-X-Large-...

Any ideas why no one even talks about this stuff, let alone use?

It could possibly even replace leather for the road if protection is on par which many people suggest it is and it'll almost definitely be more/equally convenient.

Only drawback is that you lose the hip/knee armour inserts that proper jeans come with but most bikers don't wear any on the road anyway. And I'm sure this could be worked out.

$160 would be about £160 over here. Or more than textiles and leather trousers if you look around.

So maybe the price will put many off. Plus as they look tight to the skin it's going to get hot in the summer.

Maybe people don't talk about Kevlar undergarments because they are happy with textiles, Leather or just jeans.

I'm happy wearing Leathers so one reason why I would not want Kevlar underwear

I was talking about them ages ago on here lol. I ended up getting the slash proof ones for around £50 (not CE rated). Not reinforced at the knees but I wear forcefield knee guards underneath and normal jeans over. For just short rides it feels like overkill because I used to be a squid smile more sensible now (whether kevlar long johns with jeans is sensible I can't say).

I prefer not to have multiple layers, particularly in summer. Also prefer not to have seperate armour, its just another hassle leading to excuse not to wear

if going down that route you could wear forcefield long johns and shirt with full armour just under your regular clothes ...if you wish, that solution is already there

personally I really like kevlar jeans and the ones ive worn for the last 3 years have D30 hip and knee armour in them. They are my default choice to wear most of the time...very convenient. I wash them in Nikwax, so if caught in the odd rain shower water dosent soak into them. Actually got caught out last year in some prolonged rain and it worked really well

How big is your underwear? My leathers cover me form the neck down to my ankles, with boots covering some of that too, as well as my feet. Not sure that Kevlar long johns would be my choice.

Oh and what's with the "most bikers don't wear kneed or hip protection" bit. Most bikers I see wear proper leathers. The odd people don't but they are by far the minority.

I love the OP's idea that you can put these Kevlar crackers on and then still wear your normal pants over the top. Makes any pair of trousers bike suitable according to the OP. Somehow, I find that a bit difficult to imagine, and fookin' uncomfortable to boot.
Why did I bother buying leathers when all I needed were some Kevlar pants without armour? Doh!!

Haha you lot are even more confrontational on Mondays wink

Another review: http://www.webbikeworld.com/r3/draggin-jeans/dragg...

I know I sound like a Draggin' rep but they're the only company that seems to make these.

And there's also a kevlar hoody (again good reviews): http://www.amazon.co.uk/Armoured-Kevlar-Ultimate-M...

Fwiw think these would go down well with riders in their 20s if there were more variations and they were widely available. Not for track or a ride on proper roads but just for getting around every day.

You're off your head.

There's a reason only one company makes them. It's because it's a st idea.

If, by some miracle, they do become popular with the twentysomethings then there won't be many thirtysomething bikers within a decade.

if just 1 or 2 layers of something like kevlar is that good, why do the well known and proven leather manufacturers use kevlar in addition to multiple layers or leather ?

surely it needs so many layers of the stuff to be anything like say 1mm of leather, that it ends up too thick and uncomfortable as underwear ?

Tell you what mate you prove 'em wrong, get a pair of jeans out of your cupboard. Then try putting another pair of the same size over them and crank your heating up to 23degC and start walking around for several hours.

Then feedback to the group how comfortable they are.

OK, I know it's an old thread. But has anyone tried any of Pando Moto's base layers?

No, but I seem to recall the kid from Chaos Causes YouTube channel wearing them and doing a bit of a feature / review of some of their products on his channel.
