New to bikes, so unsure where to begin with this problem.
My Honda CBF600 gives a high frequency vibration through the right hand heel rest (frame) at 5000rpm.
Where do I begin to diagnose this?
Thanks.

What is a heel rest? The footpeg?

No not the foot peg, but behind it coming off the frame is a small flat surface (on both sides of the bike). it's just forwards of the rear pegs.
I've always assumed this was for resting your heel on. Maybe I'm mistaken

Most bikes I've seen have those mounted with rubber. Probably worth taking it off & checking that's not broken up.

certain items have a natural frequency at which they tend to oscillate without any dampening.

it could be that

first things first check everything in the area is tight and torqued up

if it still persists after that, ride above 5,000 rpm

Hi original poster - I noticed a similar issue with my CBF600. Did you get to the bottom of this?

Hi. Sorry I never resolved the issue. For different reasons I p/x the bike for something else before I could work out what was causing it.

They are vibey.
Its a characteristc rather than a problem.

Quite commonly complained about, same as the cb600f hornets and cbr600f models.

Either ride around it or change gearing so your cruising speed is at a different RPM.

On other bikes where I've had similar issues I've re torqued the engine mounts (with limited success)

I've also added rubber washers with good results - I had a Versys that hummed at 4k - rubber washers on the tank covers stopped it

If it doesn't do it with the throttle closed balance the "carbs"?

That's at least two bikes on the internet with same issue (albeit seven years apart).

All inline fours do really due to the rocking couple. I've never ridden one with a balance shaft - wonder how they affect that annoying and tiring "tingle".

Although I've had a few of various displacements through the years (and still have my little 400/4) it's probably my least favourite engine configuration.

Singles and parallel twins vibrate more but at less annoying frequencies. Unless it's a classic Triumph over 500cc. No ta. Singles with balance shafts can be surprisingly smooth.

120 degree triples vibrate less than twins at a different but fairly inoffensive frequencies and are usually rubber mounted. 180 degree triples vibrate the same as singles, but less (unless it's broken). All mine have had solid engine mounts.

Boxers vibrate less than all the above but are sensitive to carb/butterfly balance at part throttle.

The smoothest engines I've had are Honda v4s. With the carbs/butterflies balanced properly you can tell when they come on the pipe because the footpeg the side the exhaust is mounted starts to tingle....

I heard that some of this bikes had problem with the clutch basket…I’m really sad about the bike because I really like it! I had a tdm before that and it was much much smoother…
