Is there a time limit on recalls?

It's a 2000 model,i just happened to read about the recall while browsing the internet last night,i haven't got around to inspecting it yet,i'll probably take the safe option and replace it straight away,Suzuki dealers in the past haven't exactly been the most helpful soles on the face of the earth but i'll call them tommorrow morning just incase they're in a helpful mood.
A 2000 will have the later tensioner anyway, you don't need to do anything. '99's have a few problems that were corrected on the 2000 models. The '99 has a weaker clutch basket, a fuel pump that pumps metal filings into the fuel filters and leaking headlights amongst many other things.
You might want to check your rear subframe for cracking by lifting the front seat and checking the welds. Early rear subframes were aly and many cracked. Suzuki never did a recall and there are many riding around with no problems, but later rear subframes were steel.
There's a few 'must do' mods on a Busa if they haven't been done already. The main 3 are to slot the side stand so it is not near-vertical when in use, many Busas have fallen off the standard side stand. It's an easy mod and saves heart ache later. Also you should re-locate the IATS from the air box into the left hand ram air tube which will stop the bike spluttering and cutting out in traffic (caused by the IATS getting too hot and richening up the mixture too much) and if the bike is hesitating under acceleration (if it isn't yet it will do in time, trust me
) you need to strip out all of the fuel filters in the pump and injectors as they get bunged up and limit fuel flow.
And one other thing to check, on early models we had a few instances of the posts inside the clutch basket not being thread locked properly and coming loose, you may want to take them out and re-torque/thread lock them just to be on the safe side.
And you may want to fit a TRE to sharpen up the acceleration in the lower gears too, it costs about 5p and takes less than 5 minutes to do but it's a good mod for most Busas....

TRE stands for Timing Retard Eiminator, the modification is called many things but they all basically do the same job. You see they being sold on eBay for up to £75. It's a way of removing the restriction that is built into the ignition curve on all Busas in the lower gears to stop people wheelying them over backwards (allegedly....
...and speed restricting them from '01 on)
Whatever way you do it, what you need is a 6.8k resistor that you connect in between the pink gear indicator wire and earth, it forces the bike permanently to use a 5th gear unrestricted map. It also makes for easier tuning with a Power Commander and as I said, removes the top speed restriction on later models.
Here's a cheapo version on eBay if you can't be bothered to do it yourself, the price isn't too bad...
