My car is currently up for sale which may leave me stuck for transport to work if it sells.

Unless I use the bike. I only have my leathers which leave me a bit cold so i dont fancy a 5am start on a wet cold morning in them. They seem to have shrunk so wearing layers underneat is not an option.

What is there out there ? what would i need.

I wear a fleece and a jumper underneath... works well... shame about your shrunk leathers.

The other points in my cold defence are:
- thick socks
- handlebar muffs
- a sort of neckwarmer thing I got from a bike shop, which covers my neck and head up to my top lip (the photo on the box shows it covering the nose as well, but I don't like that) and has a sort of flange on the bottom which goes over my shoulders and blocks up the gaps around the collar of my jacket. It's made of a sort of thin version of a fleece, with a Gore-Tex-type liner.

Keeping the extremities warm is a really big help, which is what the above things do.

I ride right through the winter, even in the snow, so.....

I used to wear leathers all year round, but after coming off and ruining them I bought Hein Gericke all weather gear with removable thermal linings, removable chin/chest cover and removable bib and braces for the trousers. I wouldn't go back to leathers now, the fabric kit is much easier to keep cool or warm in and maintain, just stick it in the washing machine and apply water proofing before drying it. On the coldest mornings I wear a thick jumper but normally only a t-shirt.

For the hands I wear summer gloves with silk liners and put handle bar mitts on to keep the wind and rain off, waterproofing the mitts helps as well.

hope this helps.

If you can't get textiles, why not at least get a one piece rain suit outer, to go over the leathers.

Another layer so more warmth.

Worth a try anyway.

I started to get cold in my leathers, so i bought soem Richa textile gear - £180 armoured and theyre lovely and warm/cool depending on the weather!

If you cant afford that, get a one piece waterproof suit - I found mine kept the warmth in very well.

Silly question maybe, but whay can't you wear a fleece, jumper or whatever over your leathers?

It's not much use over 30mph, you really need something that keeps the wind out.

As zzr1200 says. I ride all year on CBR6. I bought Hein Gericke Voyager kit. It was £350 for the whole lot, £30 slightly damaged barr muffs byOxford from J&S, and thats it. Under my jacket i wear my cheap and nasty governmant issue white shirt, and thats it.

I havent yet bought any decent boots and make do with Sidi Black rain evo, but.... i find a plastic bag in boot helps keep heat in, despite boots being waterproof.

Have fun....

And remember...when you filter throught the motorway snarl ups, you shall feel warm inside !!

Hi folks,

Once you've tried one of these, you'll never be without one in winter! Check out the Pelmet:
www.respro.com/urbancommuting_motorcyclin.php

"The Respro® Helmet Pelmet™ was developed to offer protection to commuter and courier riders who ride consistently in cold or rainy conditions."

Bloomin' marvellous! It works an absolute treat; I never realised how much warmer I'd feel overall when my neck's nice'n'toasty

Def. worth getting the all-weather gear.

An Electric vest is a revelation too, bought a BMW one last year, but it seems to have given up the ghost this year, so I'll be going all Widder I suspect.

My gear is listed on

http://ombomb.kicks-ass.org/Tiger_Mods.html

scroll down to Clothing.....(most of it I bought at my fav. bike shop in Amsterdam ... www.deleertent.nl/ )

PPS The Archos is gone and was replaced by an ipod bu that has also now been replaced with a 1Gb Audiodream flash mp3 player.
