The Moto GP is going the same way F1. What a boring race!

But what is up with Rossi? A year ago he would start from the back of the grid just to prove he could overtake the entier field to win.

Now he is happy to just go with the flow, and just take points

But he wasnt trying, there were no major slides, no risky moves, he just sat back and took the points

He's on an inferior bike and the wrong tyres. He's closing in on a truly historic championship. What would you have thought of him if he'd binned it after switching off his brain in pursuit of a couple of extra points.

I know comparisons are spurious, but to my mind this man is the best bike racer in history by a massive margin.

I hear what you're saying but there was a time when Rossi would have been trying to get up to the front when riding a mini moto!

He gained respect for racing on the day not for trying to secure points. He just sat back and gace up, his pace was well down of that of the Camel.

Shame about the crash at the 1st corner

I'm with MAM, no point whatsoever in barging around. The championship is still loosable, and Tamada is no threat to that, whilst Gibernau is four places behind.

Did exactly what I'd have done, had I been graced with that amount of talent.

When "The Doctor" goes to F1, although I can't really see a reason for him to (1), I'm sure he'll stuff it up them.

1 The only reason for Valentino to go to F1 is to become World Champion, thus becoming the greatest motor-sport racer ever. If you put The Doctor and the Cobbler in two races, one race on bikes then a race in cars, The Doctor would be the winner. No question.

so what has happened to racing then?

Is it all about a procession??

Maybe theyve gone for the F1 idea

Well thank you for spoiling the result for me when I logged on here this morning, I didn't watch the race live. Like most people I would watch the reply this lunchtime. But I thought I might be able to avoid the Motorsports Forums on here where these threads should be posted but no, you posted it in General Gassing and gave it title to easily suggest one person who didn't win the race.

Once again thank you for that.

IMO Rossi will take over from Schumacher in a couple of years.

He is a true racer with the passion to win and the charisma to mould a team around him - which seems to work well at Ferrari.

And with Ferraris recent successes all they need to complete the picture is an Italian multiple world champion - obvious really!

Honda put the greatest effort into todays race and Rossi was expected to get a 5th at best so how you can say that Rossi was not trying is beyond me.

What about a couple of races back when Gibernau fell off and Rossi only had to ride for the points but fell off trying too hard? Is that a man who lacks passion?

As for Tomada did you not realise he was on different tyres and had shattered the lap record in qualifying? Rossi gave as best as he could till the inevitable happened and Tomada rode past in the Honda lane.

Rossi is just 4 races away from greatness a feat that has not and will not be achieved in the future for quite some time. He has humiliated Honda by choosing to show them that it was him not them, that made the winning look so easy and boy has he done a great job this season.

I don't see Michael Schumacher jumping the Ferrari ship to prove how great he is in an inferior machine and I don't expect we ever will.

Rossi is a GOD !!!

Quite a boring result really apart from Nakano getting the Kwak on the podium, of course the bridgestones were going to do well this was their home track.

Rossi knew once the tyres went off he just had to bring the bike home, you could see JB and the team starting the post mortem as soon as the bike crossed the line.

Just a shame the midget skittled the second and third rows, goober would have been even further down the grid and we might have had the spectacle of Max and Rossi fighting it out to be the first michelin runner.

Anyway, any witty captions for this shot?

Don't forget Schumacher left the Benetton for Ferrari when the dancing donkey was really living up to that tag.

Hey dont get me wrong I think that Rossi is one of if not the most talanted riders we have in the world today.

It was a boring race though!

Rossi stayed with Tomada for the first few laps and then let him go. You cant deny that he did that! Yes I know its all about points, and now that he has a good lead then 2nd place gets him a bigger lead. I know the Honda was on better tyres, and has more power. But not one slide, not one little moment, he just did qualifying laps as he had a clear field. It was a shame. The margin that was between 1st and 2nd was so close to start with, then it sunk faster than the titanic.

Maybe the points break should be higher for 1st, that way it would keep the racing alive

It wouldn't have made any difference to this race. With Biaggi out, Gibernau in 6th and Tamada not even in contention you can't expect Rossi to showboat when there's a World Championship at stake.

Think instead about his win over Biaggi in the first race, his win over Gibernau when he overtook him halfway around the last lap, and then think again whether Rossi has lost it.

There was a shot on Eurosport that showed Rossi coming over a crest. The front wheel was in the air and the bike was all crossed up. I think he has passion in boat loads.

The amount of skill and dedication it has taken him to be so far in front of the Hondas this year is amazing. 6 wins on a bike that was on the podium once last year. He is a star, way above anybody else in any motorsport at the moment.

I think he will do one more year at Yamaha but what will he do after that?
