looking to part ex my k2 gixxer 750 for 2000-2001 rsv millie r anything to look out for?
Seriously not a lot to go wrong, if something does it's usually minor but you're waiting a month for Aprilia to ship the part from Italy.
The Rotax engine is pretty bomb proof providing it's been serviced properly, the ohlins fork seals on the 'R's are a known weakness, clutch slip on higher milage examples (you can fit better springs but a barnet clutch is a better solution), the rear brake design is crap so you'll be forever bleeding it. Topping up the oil is a bit of a fuss with the dry sump.
They can flood when starting, just remember to use the choke/fast idle when starting from cold, else you'll flattern the battery.
The electrics are okay, an optimate is essential if you're not going to use it at least once a week.
Go easy with the hose pipe and don't use a pressure washer, else it won't start until dried out.
The finish seems to be holding up okay on mine (an 03), it just needs a bit more TLC than you give say a Honda.
When your viewing one, look at the frame around the rear brake lever and gear selector for marks, which will be an indication that the bikes been down the road, the rear swing arm will also have a dent from the end can if it's been down on the RHS.
Have a look at these three sites for more info:

Don't really agree with all of the above. I've had mine just over 2 years. I dropped it on diesel last year and all the parts I needed were there in a few days. I've never had any trouble with anything on the bike. Do have the rear brake system blown out completly and have new brake fluid put in. Once it's been done correctly it will be fine.
Get the R it's a far better bike than stock. Get the Aprilia Pipe and chip from the race dept it sounds brilliant and there is no flat spot in the fueling. The bike was designed to run with this can and chip. It was then modified to pass emisions. I would fit the double bubble screan and make sure the forks are serviced every 10,000 miles or 2 years.
The biggest thing to do is drop a tooth off the front. It transforms the transmission 2nd to 3rd to 4th is seamless now and you will be dropping a Duc by 10m each gear change.
I've just got back from Assen on mine and I'm sat at work just waiting to take it out again.
If you need any info you are welcom to get incontact.
Oh yeah it eats rear tyres....

I've only had a starter solenoid fail in the last 18 months (7,000 miles). It's also failed to start due to flooding (my fault for not using the choke when cold), and a couple of times after being washed.
rsvmille said:It helps (pic in profile), though I find it a bit snatchy at low revs with the race chip, The installation of the older collector box helps as well, and is a cheap mod. See www.rsvr.net/pages/performanceSub.asp?section=s1 click on the Air Filters link (Teds URL parser breaks the link).

Have you test ridden one? It'll be quite a departure from your 750.
It'll probably feel quite slow. It's deceptive, though and the speedos are really accurate - mine only over-reads by 2mph at 100mph, despite the smaller front sprocket. (In comparison, a 2001 ZX-6R I took to Le Mans last year showed 100mph, with my GPS reading only 92mph.)
The handling/stability is just rock-solid, though.

its proving to be abit daunting at the moment I feel like i dont really know when test riding the rsvr's how the bike should sound or ride. I have only test rode one and that was on a X plate and road like a bag of bolts it kept stalling every time I stopped at traffic lights and made some horrendous popping noises when I was engine braking. Hopfully looking at a 52 reg at the weekend which is a little more expensive but has fsh and sound like its immaculate and only has 3000 miles in the clock !
fingers crossed also this bike is an R and has rear pegs to take a pillion, now I was told by another dealer that the rsvr's were single seater only as standard, if this the case would this mean that the bike I am going to look at has been modded? thanks for your help so far!

Re: Single seat, y
You can swap the hump for a pillion pad.
Not too sure whether the 02 models came with both, but the 03 models definitely did.
The 52 plate an 02 or 03 spec bike? If it's an 'R' then the 03 will have radial calipers.
The 'X' plate bike, if it was on the original exhaust but with the race chip it will run too rich which might have been what you'd experienced.

Hello mate,
02 has rear seat and speed hump, with pegs, make sure you get both. It's a crap design and I am looking to change mine for a carbon one. The birds got her own bike now.
Mine will give a lovely pop on the over run when either very hot or cold. Under normal thrashing in just sounds fantastic.
I have added a pic to my profile of the bikes. So you can see what an 02 looks like.
Extras on mine are:
Rear sets.... a must for my lard arse.
Screen..see above
Pipe

Make sure it is fitted with SuperCorsa Dragon tyres and that the pressure is right I would suggest 2.1bar for your first runs......I guess you will drop the back to 1.8 for really hard riding.
Ask about the sprocket. If it is stock or modified.
Good luck.
