Any recommendations?

With all this rain I'm getting fed up of a wet collar when I get to work!

Bear in mind that a waterproof neck tube will have to go outside your jacket, and thus will flap about, otherwise you are simply wicking the water straight onto your collar.

I've been having similar problems. Can't remember the brand but I've got a balaclava with a waterproof lower half that does the job. Water doesn't seem to run down in in to my collar, as opposed to a non waterproof buff whcih gradually wicks waster down. However I've recently bought a Hein Gericke waterproof over jacket which has a hood, and find putting the hood up underneith my helmet does a fantastic job of keeping the water out. It does seem a little noisier as speed though.

I have a balaclava I bought from decathlon for £6 and a snood made of fleece. Keeps the neck dry in a downpour for my commute which takes about 50 minutes.

I am guilty of tucking my neck tube in which I know isn't helping ... biggrin

I won't wear a balacava - I get too hot and uncomfortable!

Coldkillers do a nice one. http://www.coldkillers.co.uk/product.html?product=... used one before I got a decent jacket with a storm collar. Wife uses it now when she's on pillion.

that's the name I was trying to think of, the balaclava I mentioned earlier is a Coldkiller. I find the waterproof material is a bit scratchy on my neck though so wear a buff underneith it. Thinking of getting one like the link above as a full balaclava is a bit over the top.

Got one of those ... its useless in heavy rain.

does your jacket have a storm collar? I find that makes a huge difference, and the only water I get soaking in to my neck tube is what's run down the helmet strap, so the cold killer is good enough for a couple of hours heavy rain. Don't know if you can get an equivilent to a storm collar that goes on jackets without one though.

I couple of years ago I found that I had my HG Master Jacked (Gore-Tex), my HG Cruise trousers (Gore-Tex), my Held Gore-Tex gloves and my Gore-Tex Puma boots. I could ride for long distances in very heavy rain and stay totally dry except around my neck where my neck warmer would wick moisture down onto my shirt. I then invested in this

my neck now stays totally dry even though I have to tuck the balaclava into the top of the jacket.
Also of interest for those still looking is this:

Just a quick thank you for highlighting this. I picked one up recently and I wore it in to work for the first time this morning. Really warm and comfortable - once you lose the toggle anyway.

I use the Oxford windproof balaclava (NOT the non waterproof cotton one). It is excellent. Stops wind, rain, everything. Also comes as a neck tube and they even make top and bottom underwear out of the same stuff.
