I thought that pulling wheelies on public roads was illegal, but I saw 3 bikers tonight driving past a full pub beer garden in full view of all patrons. They were all on one wheel for several hundred yards (would have been good as stunt bikers!!)

I always thought this was illegal and perhaps the police car driving past a couple of minutes later indicates that.

Does anyone know if on-road wheelies etc are illegal?

Yes. I believe they can charge you with something along the lines of not being in full control of the vehicle.

Yeah, I think a small one is a charge of "due care and attention" whereas something a bit more special (3rd gear@100+) is probably "dangerous driving" though very skilled.

It's even banned on track days now. If you've ever been on a 100% bikes trackday you'll have no doubt heard the spiel: <northern accent> "we know the difference between a small power wheelie and one of these" <emulates Shane Byrne one footed minger pose>.

I think you'd get away with a power wheelie on the road if you keep it to <1ft. Anything more and the non-motorcycling public think you're going to crash there and then and thus the BiB see it as alarming other road users...or at least that's what my mate's warning letter from Surrey Police said.
