Was on my home today with my dad went we went past A small bike shop I had never seen before,so we decide to pop in for A look.Everything there is fairly rough looking cracked fairings, bits hanging off etc just as we are about to leave I spot this bike covered with A towel and then I notice four exhausts! I actually became overwhelmed with joy it was an RD500!! all the plastics were gone,no tank no headlight and the wiring loom was A mess.I was really hoping for A bargain, kinda thinking this could be my lucky day! asked him how much and he looked at me is if I was mad,he had just sold it for 6500 euro!!crazy money for A frame and an engine really, well worth it though biggrin

That was a bit rich but true uk minters are around the 10k mark, restoration projects 5k! . .an unused RD350 apparently fetched 18k and again, good ones are in the 4-5k bracket. .when the GPZ6 and CBR6 came in,no one wanted them, midleweights with the same or better performance without the 2 stroke maintainance agro and much better build. . .wish i still had my RG500 thou. . .

Long time ago now but it was a fantastic thing to ride, build quality was poor vs the NS400 I had but Honda was at its peak then for build and finish.

The RG was considerably faster than its rivals thou, it flew past my friends RD5 and the Honda was never in it BHP wise, it was a better handling bike thou...

Id love another example of either...what they will rise too will be stupid money I think..but they where the real race replicas for me, a desmodeci for the masses back in the day.

I'd like another RD 500, mine was B961 TEL in Black/Red. There were 2 local lads that had RG 500's (car sales) and were full of themselves about how they were gonna kick my arse on the local back roads.

If I'm honest, I'd rather have an RG, they just look. cloud9

Many moons back when I first rode an RG or RD I was surprised that the rev counter wasn't even calibrated to read below something like eight grand. Next second it was reading about fifteen! Coming from a long list of muscle 'bikes it was a bit of a culture shock... fun tho'...

Thinking about it (make allowances - it was a long time ago and I've had a few 'bikes) that particular memory may have been the unfaired 250 Wolf. Oooh, getting old....

You're probably right was back when they were new - had/ridden a huge amount of stuff since. Regardless, I've never forgotten how the 500s went - that is an indelible memory!

Thanks for the info I think now is the time to buy before they do get really expensive. Most of them well probably end up locked away and just bought by collectors unfortunately!

I cant even bear to here people mention the wolf(thankfully does not happen often) came across one for sale few months back for 600euro.It was all stripped down but looked okay. That week though I went on A weekend holiday with my gf to dublin. It was the worst holiday ever if I didnt go I could have bought the bike! and to make things worse as we were on our way to dublin the seller called me and asked if I still wanted it because A guy was looking for the rear caliper off it.The bike ended up being broke. frown

Wheels, discs and forks are wrong though, they look like they're from an FZR.

Whatever it was - I was speaking to the guy that spoke no English, to go with my very little French, and I think he still raced it regularly.

Mad thing is, I always much preferred the look of the RD...and still do but it was one of those "must haves"...I sold it for a Saphire Cossie which I wrote off after a few months...still, another box ticked!

This is how mad things are getting for anything stroker, this montsh Classic Bike mag has an article on the SB200, a 200cc X5 clone in cheaper clothes and tune..seems even they are sought after now, also attached is a pic of the SB I had back in 1987 or 88, it did the commuting task and as my dirt bike had seized, also had do make do as an off road bike for a while. What I should have been doing ws packing it in a vac bag, I think I sold it for an air rifle in the end...

I know people that regularly use £170,000 Brough Superiors. RD/RGs will have to go up an awful long way before they're locked away!

Agreed mate, the affluent will always be able to buy, maintain and use their toys, look at classic car racing, the average bod couldnt comprehend the cost of a repair if something went wrong, not that im knocking it mind, its fantastic to see these things used as intended..but for the majority of us, £10,000+ on a second (or third) bike is a heck of a lot of money and in reality it would end up being locked away or see little use most of the time, these are collectors pieces already, no doubt.

Prices are rising fast, you could pick up a real nice RD500 for £3000 just a few years ago, now sports mopeds are fetching that...and more..

Funny how they go on about parts sharing with the sb200.I had 2 ax 100s(as if one wasnt bad enough!) front end and rear shocks where the exact same and probably aloud of other parts that I dont know about. One of my mine was A 2000 so imagine how many years they have been using the same parts!
