Just had some new tyres fitted to my R1, by a new mobile fitting company based in Notts / Derby area. Was a bit doubious a first but was quickly reasured. The service was top rate and very professional, the guys actualy came out to me and fitted the tyres at home (no more taking the wheels off yourself )plus the price was about 50 Quid cheaper than going to that well known bike shop which sounds like Caramels!!!!

I've just started commuting from Newbury to Southampton on my blade and it's destroying my rear tyre. Can anyone recommend a dual-compound tyre that will work well on this bike?

I'm using the BT020s on a Triumph Sprint RS and they seem to be lasting really well and are good in wet or dry conditions.

My 207GP's lasted 5k miles on my commute. The Bridgestones are dual compound and I've just replaced the Dunlops with BT010's - they're 'tip-top' Tommy.

I've had 020s before on a GPZ1100 and thought that they were ok but spun up a bit too easily in the wet. I'm not after ultimate longevity but the longest time possible that the tyre stays in shape. I think the blade came with 207s from new and while I've managed to get over 5000 miles out of them the last 3 weeks of commuting up and down the A34/M3 has just worn the center line of tyre flat which has made them behave very oddly, especially in the wet.

I'll have a look at the 010s I think... Stig, are they predictable when leant over?

Thanks for the replies,

Mark

Well I'm running 010's on my R1 and due another set next week. Excellant rubber and far more confident inspiring than the stock Dunlop 207's. The 207's were never that good at delivering feedback when on hard cornering, the 010's give good feedback and more to the point - stick.

Just a niggly point: 020's and 010's are not strictly dual compound tyres; contrary to many peoples opinions. The confusion lies with the Dual Aligned Compound technology that they apply. Its the same piece of rubber all the way around the tyre but Dual Aligned Compound is the name given to the technology which controls the length of molecules in a single strip of rubber. Apparently this modifys the wear and grip charateristics of the centre strip of the tire.
I say I can't notice the difference and I've sh*gged these tyres in exactly the same mileage as the 207's.

I'll give the 010s a go then, if they are no better in terms of wear rate it's still better than queueing in the car. When it gets a bit sunnier I'll start taking the twisty route home.

I have found the 207s pretty good on the blade but then the blade is a very easy bike to ride. I had them on a 6r and the front always felt as though it was washing out. The blade gives so much more confidence that I'm working the tyres much harder than I was on the 6r so I guess a lot of it comes down to suspension.

Yep, another vote for 010s here - great in the wet, confidence and grip in the twisties. About 5k mileage from the rear, hopefully double that from the front.

010's again.. came standard on my triumph daytona. done 2.5k now and still look like new. my buddies have an R6 and GSX600 and they too have changed for the 010's.

read a bike mag run down on tyres last month, they came top in the road/race category, long wear in the centre patch, softer/grip on the outer, best of both worlds. you can get better wear or better grip, but suffer the other.

Oh dear.
My rear 020 is looking unwell after 150 miles. Maybe it's the 2-up riding, maybe it's me?!

207RR's are the best i have ever tried, apart from the Azaro mental stickies, which I made illegal in 800 miles. Did not make me happy at the expense!

I'd still recomend stickt as possible, an insurance claim is much more expensive...

Keep it shiney side up!

Carl.

150 miles ! what were you doing off roading ! i spose with bikes like yours mels zx12r etc there is a shed load of torque low down so they give the tyre a bit more grief

i might try 207 rr's next then or can you recommend somthing better bearing in mind i like riding in the wet so dont want a tyre that grippy in the dry and looses the plot in the wet , Thats why i had the 020's
