Hey all

In progression to getting licence and learning basic mechanic-ary, would like to get hold of a dirt cheap bike. And i mean, dirt cheap !

Something that's either running and needs tidying or is a non-runner with little bits needed (i say little as restricted knowledge at the mo)

Anyone help ?

ta very much !!

Try your local rag, news agents windows, Loot etc. They tend to be a better source for cheapies than biking mags.

How about an 86 kx500 in bits for 500 quid

Had the bottom end rebuilt, needs the top end sleeving and rebuilding. Have new piston and rings and gasket kit. Needs new tyres, brakes and an engine mount welding back on. Scruffy as you like but fast when built (you will be taking on a 'project' though).

Any good?

Mark

Edited to add: just spotted "Something that's either running and needs tidying or is a non-runner with little bits needed (i say little as restricted knowledge at the mo)" so probably not then

I know of a GSXR600 on an 04 plate going for £2K. It needs a new fork leg and engine cover and some cosmetic work, and it has just 500 miles on the clock. It is genuine and was supplied by Suzuki GB to the Magazine I write for.

If anyone is interested I will be happy to provide the contact details.

If its you're first bike you're best looking for something like a gpz500 or similar (assuming you're over 21!) not too much for a first bike

How about a CBX550F2 for £500.

Its a non-runner at the moment the only problem being the engine, but I have sourced an engine to replace it. I have just been busy/lazy with other projects!

I have a 1983 CBX550F2 you can have for £295. Taxed till end Aug. MOT till 18/8/04. Leaking front fork seal and a slow puncture in rear tyre. With its inboard disc brakes, and "must have" cam chain rattle, ideal for makey learny mechanicals.Everything works, and can be fun to ride, but it is 21 years old !!!
