I've just put a new set of tyres on the bike (Macadam 90's) and was wondering what the best way to scrub them in was. Some folk say rubbing them with a bit of emery cloth does the job, but I was always under the impression that you needed to get some heat in the tyres for them to melt the release stuff out. Does anyone out there have any suggestions ? I've just got the bike so I don't really want to drop it !!
Don't waste your time with emery cloth- just ride the bike !.
If the tyres are brand new on, just take it easy until you start to see the shine disappearing. What I personally do to scrub a pair in quickly, is to just ride around for 5 minutes at light throttle and start to get some heat into the tyres. As the ride continues, just lean a bit further over, each time applying a little more throttle. Quite quickly the tyre will start to rough a bit. As for the front, build the braking up gently until you are comfortable to apply normal pressures.
I generally give myself around 20 - 30 minutes out with the aim of cleaning up both sides. Rights are easy- Just find yourself a quiet roundabout, gradually building up drive each time..The ones with the abrasive gripping surfaces work a treat..
