Folks, help me out here:

I've currently got this (2002 GSX-R750 K2, owned from new, totally mint, 3000 miles only):

and am I considering selling it to buy this (2004 GSX-R750, Crescent Suzuki Rizla Team Superbike colours, comes with Yoshimura Tri-oval can, undertray, and..... wait for it - a Rizla Team Superbike shirt!!!)

My current bike is totally mint so how can I possibly justify selling it and paying what will likely be around £3000 to get the new bike?

Please tell me I need therapy.

I went into the bike shop for a pair of gloves and came out with a 748, so I'm probably not the best person to speak to either

I will say that I chopped in my ZX6R with 3k miles on it never been out in the rain etc etc, and couldn't be happier with the Duke (see profile for its' last outing )

Two questions to answer:

1. Can you afford it?

2. Will it give you a bigger grin?

Well, what are you waiting for?!!

I definitely want it, and with the bonus on the way next month can also afford it. There is one stumbling block however - I'm about to become a dad in about 4 weeks time, and Jackie will hit the bloody roof if I spend £3000 on "another motorbike - what was wrong with the last one".

Taking her out to dinner tonight so will pick my moment....

No problem. I recently took my silver ZZR1100 for a service and returned on a new black ZZR1200. I didn't say a word to my girlfriend and it took her nearly two weeks to realise - and then she only asked me why I'd had it resprayed!!!

My girlfriend has blonde hair.

I did think about that, and may well use it. Not sure I'll get away with moving from an '02 plate to an '04 plate though!

Dude, go for the bike - right behind ya there, but noooooooo *pleeaasssee* don't get the 'team shirt' they look sooo incredibly naff! - unless of course you are a sponsor or a mechanic!

This is from someone who went to the Ally Pally for nuffin and bought the new blade within 15mins of arriving!..... and then a car to match - still toys come before DIY projects in our house!

Good Luck

With you on that one Kitty! The shirt comes for free but the chances of me actually wearing it are none and fXXk-all.

Step 1 passed - over dinner last night I talked the other half into the idea. She actually wasn't that bothered in the end. I thought she'd go nuts given the baby is only a few weeks away.

Step 2 - a friend of a friend is interested in my current bike, so need to press the flesh a little there.

Step 3 - decide if I really want the Rizla GSX-R750 as it's the same price as a new Fireblade!

Insurance costs may well decide it as I am in the worst case scenario (London with no garage). That said, I don't know how the insurance company will view the mods to the GSX-R750 (paint job, race can, extra 7bhp), so they may well be nothing between them on insurance.

Better go check.

Hi Pesty. You won't be disappointed with a K2 750. It's an awesome bike.

Just had an insurance quote and it's only another £95 for me for a new CBR1000RR Fireblade. They couldn't give me a quote straight away on the Rizla GSX-R750 due to the paint job, so are getting back to me on Tuesday.

I have a feeling this whole thing is gathering momentum!

Went along to my local Honda dealer today to sniff around the new Fireblade (to check out the competition for a new GSX-R750 in Rizla Superbike colours) and ...... they didn't have one! "Not due in for a few weeks" apparently.

Rats.

Still deciding Sam. It's either going to be:

1) Buy the Crescent Suzuki Rizla GSX-R750 K4 (6-8 week waiting list)
2) Buy a new CBR1000RR Fireblade (my local dealer doesn't have stock yet)
3) Get my current K2 GSX-R750 painted up in Rizla Superbike colours
4) Do nothing.

I need to sort out test rides on the 'Blade and K4 GSX-R before I can choose.

Cheers,
gixxer.

Worth the wait - my new blade is my 21st motorcycle - and the one I have been most pleased with from delivery - get a demo before making your mind up!

Gixxer,

Depending upon how tall you are, you may find the new blade a tad small. Had a ride on a friends on sat and the low down fuelling is all over the place. The new K4 750 is a bit roomier and they seem to have the fuelling spot on - zero hesitation, etc....

Got any test rides lined up?
