Gorgeous weather yesterday.. bikes & sunshine.

A good mate helped with manoeuvring the bikes, as a chronic back injury frequently interferes.. frown and he gave the TLR some exercise

My Hornet out in Romney marshes on Friday night. As it's July tomorrow it's nearly 21 years since I picked it up from the dealers, my only brand new bike ever. On Friday it was MOT'd by my mate who runs an MOT centre - the 19th time he's MOT'd it. Had eight years where it wasn't used much, so just coming up to 72k now. The MOT tester remarked how well the engine ran. So far it's been amazingly low maintenance. I guess sometimes you just find a bike you gel with.

Went for a couple hours ride around Hullbridge yesterday and passed my Mod 1 today party

Can't get any more days booked off from work until September, I'm starting to think that it was easier to get my HGV licence

I had an F1 later on ( I think it was called an F1, you'll see the pic so you can remind me if I'm remembering the designation correctly or not ), but this was an earlier black and red one on an A plate with the small fairing and bellypan. Microns, obviously!

This prompted me to have a look for the very few bike pics I have, found more than I thought I had.......

Kawasaki AR125, first bike. I was 18 in this pic.

My first 350 after passing my test. I was 20. Look at the clip of me there. WTF is going on with my hair!

Same bike a year or so on at the famous Westgate hill in Newcastle. It's gained a few bits, fairing, Allspeeds etc.....

My first and most beloved YPVS. My favourite bike out of everything I owned........this was the one that got me into trouble that Saturday......

Even had my lid painted to match this one........

This came up front ended. I had it jigged, put forks etc on it. Turned out it had some mad tune on it that I didn't know about when I bought it, seem to remember seeing an indicated 140mph on this....

I took these pics on the day I was finished repairing it. I was working in the paint section of Custom Lids on Westgate Hill by this time, so I prepped the fairing etc and it was painted and put back together the previous day, finishing touches that morning........

This was the little bd that pretty much finished it for me with bikes. I stacked it at fairly high speed on a road just off the A1, near where the Angel of the North is now. Broke my neck in 2 places and damaged a carotid artery which subsequently blocked some years later and left me with blackouts and temporary blindnes in one eye for a few months until it was diagnosed........4 tablets a day for the last 18 years. Evil handling thing on 16 inch wheels, it turned in ok, but it wasn't what you might call stable or trustworthy. I had to replace the engine among many other things after the shunt, the impact snapped the end of the crank off.....

I had 3 years off after this, then tried again with an import CBR400, but I wasn't the riderI had been and didn't wan't to ride if I couldn't be quick, so that was that. I'd got to the stage where I always felt like I might have another off.

Sorry for the OT, got carried away having a blast down memory lane. The years I had with bikes were the best of my life.

LC2 with small microns looks so right…

Worst thing I ever did was waste a stload of money building a yammagamma instead of just enjoying my old F1. Spent more on that than it would have cost to get into a KR1S….which routinely pissed all over it when various things grounded out or broke frown

Thanks to Biker's Nemesis for putting that up, I was too stupid to know how to move it here.

I absolutely adored that bike, as you say, they were a great looking thing and it was a nice thing to be on. You could just lean back as it came into the band in first and second and a little tug on the bars would have it lift, and I thought it handled well at the time. I had my best years on that as a biker, and on a nostalgia level, that would be the one I'd have back.

No problem.

I'm just about to have my Tea, I'll be back after that and I'll answer your question about my RD 500 and Westgate Road.
