Bump, what did you go for in the end?

I am also mincing between the Monster 1200 and an older Ducati Streetfighter. Just wondering if you went for the Monster?

I haven’t because I’m really bad at making decisions smile

I was passing a local Triumph dealer today and had yet another look at the latest Street Triple and an older Speed….the newer Street is probably the more sensible option (a year old one). I’m probably hung up on getting a “big” >1000cc bike because my current bike is particularly small for a 650 and looks like a bit of a toy when I parked up next to the demonstrators. The 765 is probably big enough, then I watch a video of a Monster 1200 and I’m back to square one!

Surely this is what you really want then?

Question for those with experience one the Monster 1200S/R - What's the ride quality like on them? I've got a 2014 Speed Triple at the moment and it's a great thing but just too damn stiff. Makes it difficult to ride at times even after a proper setup and mine's not even an R, just on the standard Showa gear.

I have my M12R for 6 years (from new). It's a stiff but not harsh ride. The quality of the Ohlins is clearly very good if really soaks up the road imperfections. When you're pressing on a little it really glides along. I ride a BMW R1300GS as well, with the adaptive suspension and that, as you'd imagine, is very impressive but even that feels inferior to the Ducati. The M12R is so planted, so smooth. The suspension is sublime. Different league to many high end sports bikes.

Have you sold the 650 yet? I might be able to help you with your new bike decision by taking the old one off your hands

They're about to launch a revised speed triple rs. It appears to resolve the harsh ride of the current version using electronic ohlins.

I suspect there are deals to be had as a result. I've just picked up a 1200rr - really enjoying it so far and a steal at current prices.
That's interesting if true. I have a Street Triple which I'll never sell but am looking for something else. Was either thinking older for commute or commute still on the Street but buy something more fun for weekends. I tried the Speed Triple when it came out. Engine was great but the ride was too hard for me and I'm 95kg

If I buy new again I'm limited by dealer access. Triumph is still an hour away but I do like the dealer who've been great the last 5 years but BMW and Aprilia would now be well into Bristol so is a longer slog to get work done on them. Only ones local are Suzuki, Honda, Yamaha Kawasaki and nothing appeals that they do. I do like the look of a Tuono but tank range isn't the best.
