First ride out on my newly acquired 1991 VFR.. Compared to my ZXR or TLR, it’s so smooth and easy to ride. It deals with road bumps and ruts with ease..

I loved the riding position, no weight on my wrists, and soft suspension.. I am clearly getting old

Is that a Daytona 955 with 1050 wheels or a 1050 wearing Daytona 955 clothes? The 955 nikasil liners don't actually fit in the 1050 water jacket as they're too short but we didn't let such a minor detail stop us...
It looks like a factory built bike even down to the 1050R on the rear fairing.

It's a 955 Daytona with forged PVM wheels, a 1050 bottom end, Carrillo rods, custom forged 955 pistons running in 955 nikasil liners, 955 head, 1050 cams, 955 exhaust, 955 airbox and the rev limiter raised to 9,700rpm.

My first thought was that they were PVM wheels but I couldn't find them on their website. They do look at lot like the wheels on the 1050 (maybe they are PVM as OEM?). I thought that sticker on the tail looked a little suss but I couldn't quite make it out The 955 nikasil liners don't actually fit in the 1050 water jacket as they're too short but we didn't let such a minor detail stop us...

But well done - it looks rad and sounds like it would be a bit on the spicy side with those engine mods!

It was showing 140 at the wheel after it was first built but the engine was still a bit tight, the real gains were the torque, a 955 has about 60lbs/ft @4k this has 80lbs/ft at the same revs. If I put the inlet cam on the exhaust side and fitted a 955 exhaust cam to the inlet, longer 1050 inlet trumpets and opened up the airbox it would rev out more at the top end with more power and torque everywhere.

These are what are fitted but I've no idea if you can still get them. ![hehe](/inc/images/hehe.gif)

The first mods I made were the lighter wheels and Ohlins front and rear, at the time it was being serviced at one of Triumphs biggest dealers and shortly after I first took it in with the mods Triumph started selling the 'R' models with PVM wheels and Ohlins

Decided to take the Strom along part of the Ridgeway near Swindon on Sunday. For the majority of it it coped well - until we got to the entrance to a few fields which were akin to The Somme...... Managed to get through most of them until I tried to skirt around one bit and ended up literally getting stuck in a rut..... couple of cyclists helped me drag jt out! Carried on and just sent it straight through the mud this time.
Embarrassing at the time but quite literally the first time I've ever taken a proper bike offroad - and on effectively road tyres. Made me feel slightly better when two guys on scramblers turned up at the end.
Shall choose something less challenging next time and not before I get either Dunlop Mutants, Pirelli Scorpion Str or TKC70s.....
Picture below on the good bit about 5 mins prior to the rut

170 mile round trip to Old Warden Aerodrome for a Gathering of Guzzis, mostly V7s in all their different forms. About 30 turned up and maybe 3 were still in stock form. Beautiful day for it, too.

I often go up there for a look at what they’re digging out of the hangar and a coffee:(Mine’s the 848)
I've a twenty by ten shed and a twenty five by fifteen garage... and where I am I working on t'other half's Legend? Out on the patio, of course, where I can lose bits between the slabs and end the day burned to a crisp! Other than that tho', not a bad place to work, surrounded by at least four different species of dragonfly, plus a a visit from Mr and Mrs Pheasant... (Fork seals, brakes, fluid change and general spoodling.)
