If they discriminate against me on my bike when other vehicles aren't subject to the same rules then, if I'm in no rush, I can leave the pump handle lying on top of the petrol pump instead of placing it back in its holder; take an extraordinarily long time to put my helmet & gloves back on; encounter difficulties starting my bike. biggrinrofl

I've currently got a £5 coin (a Crown) in my wallet ready for any future situation where I wish to use it to settle a 'debt', e.g. paying for fuel in a petrol station or a meal in a restaurant. It's in my wallet until such time as I receive some abysmal service in one of the aforementioned establishments & I'll then use it as part payment - just to inconvenience them.

You sound like the problem really.
Not to me he doesn’t, I like his attitude.
I mean....that's just purely knobish behaviour
Do you genuinely see making things a little awkward for someone who has done similar to you as being the actions of a knob?

I could understand if you said it was petty, but know is way OTT, unless you’re some kind of ‘turn the other cheek’ type Christian, in which case why is someone like you calling someone a knob?
So do you shout at the server when the chef hasn't cooked your steak the way you asked ?

Don't make the cashier's job any harder than it already is. He/She has to deal with idiots (the public !) all the time, they're not high earners, they don't do it because they really like working as a cashier, it's just a job and they would really like to just get through the day without any hassle. Why spoil it for them ?

If there is a helmet off policy it won't be the cashier who has decided that. It'll be a faceless accountant or manager on 4x their salary and whatever you do it will never even get back to them let alone bother them. Same as shouting at the server, just makes you look like a knob, upsets him/her and the chef will never hear it and has already moved onto the next order.

Strewth, can we not just handle our emotions a little bit better than a 7 year old child !
No, why would I shout at someone over a steak or get emotional? My earlier post doesn’t imply that either, so that’s a really strange conclusion to draw.

As for a ‘no helmets’ policy discussion, that is always one that can go on and on, but TBH I do expect a degree of flexibility - I can’t actually recall visiting a petrol stn that doesn’t have that policy, but have only ever visited three where it has been actively enforced, & at least two of those have moved away from such draconian measures.

Edit: I suggest we leave this here as it’s dragging the thread right OT. If any of you want to crack on this element of the ‘discussion’, then why not start another thread?

I think it's very relevant to commuting so totally on topic. There's too many people being an arse these days, just chill out and move on if the attendant doesn't do what you want !

that's what i did, i don't avoid the main brand as i filled up at bp this week with no issues so I’ll just avoid the location

but no need to stoop to their level

moving on...

it’s been a week a sharing the roads, in particular the Mways, with those who only drive on them twice a year
FFS lane discipline, is the main one but the standard of driving this time of year is just abysmal

I had to head to west London today (from my normal home counties office) at very short notice. My highlight was being able to filter through many miles of slow and stationary traffic on the M25. I absolutely hate sitting in similar in a car, so it was a pleasure to be able to zip through it all.

A bit cold this morning! 6 degrees when I left home. I even switched the heated grips on.

That's good news, I've just got some heated gloves that I want to try out!

Bad day for me yesterday

I'd checked the proper suspended bay sign 8 yards away and the motorbike one wasn't included, turns out it was scribbled on the sign in pen and to my 6am eyes looked no different to normal.

Given the non-compliant/confusing and obscured signage I'll be appealing. The temptation to put a plate on with a single digit wrong (dyslexic transcription error) is getting stronger by the day!
You do right to appeal it, how in any way is that sign compliant ? Anyone could have scribbled on it.
Indeed - appealed one for a similar thing a few years ago and lost - the fact that the bay next door was suspended with proper signage and this one wasn't is the big difference though. Also the sign itself (when close) is obscured by a bush...

Worth a shot at an appeal nonetheless
And they've rejected the appeal saying that I should have checked the signage.

I appealed on - 3 grounds - that I checked the (legally compliant suspended bay sign) which didn't mention this bay being suspended. That the sign they were relying on was a non-compliant format and that it was blocked by vegetation when viewed at head height.

Issue is whether I appeal or just pay the discounted £65 as fk off money - (I've failed an appeal on the non-complaint signage before 5 years ago, albeit not when next to a proper suspended bay sign). Principal says the latter but with a 70 hour working week, an ongoing house refurb and a 5m old baby I could really do without the hassle.

Flipping hate commuting on rail strike days, roads are full of numpties. Drivers that don't know where they are going, peddlers all over the place and one time motorcyclists that cannot filter. Mind you, there are a more eclectic mix of bikes that have been dug out of garages for the day.

Yesterday evening at twilight I discovered 2 things.
First was a large new patch of gravel on a corner I've ridden round many times before.
Second was the bike lean angle at which the failure of the self contained anti-fouling mechanism happens ( or anal sphincter as it's otherwise known)

And also assume that you pooped a little!

Ended up taking today out of the office as I twinged my neck yesterday morning, was in agony riding home last night, and I can't look to the right at all as of today - at least I missed the usual train strike day chaos through London!

I had to check the underwear when I got home.

I went back in the morning and there's a 4m long x2m patch of new surface with loose gravel coating.

The bike didn't hit the deck but it just dropped out instantly from underneath me and I found myself holding the handlebars with the tank resting against my right knee, my right leg supporting the weight of the bike with my foot sliding along the floor.

Pure luck nothing bad happened as I don't have the experience or skills to have sorted it.

At a guess I'd imagine I'd pulled the clutch in but not the front brake or it would have high sided when it slid off the loose patch? Would that be correct? If so I'll try and remember to do it again next time it happens

I had similar on my 125. It all happened very quickly and I don't remember doing anything consciously, it was all innate reflex. I doubt I'd have kept a bigger bike up and to some extent it still haunts my wet riding.

Interesting ride back this evening - car in Brixton decided to roll forward into my leg/exhaust (I was stationary) then got annoyed when I smacked the bonnet a few times as they were still creeping!

I had similar once with a guy who had rolled onto my foot, trapping me, then got cross and started beeping me when I didn’t move away.

I came from Tonbridge to City this morning, wasn't especially quiet. Usual long queues before Fiveways on the A20, and again for the Blackwall Tunnel. I was passing through those at about 8.10 to 8.30, so peak rush hour. Probably would be much quieter 90 minutes later though. There will be no drop in traffic due to ULEZ, because as has been done to death, an overwhelming majority of cars are compliant already.

Not exactly commuting but thanks to the sports bike rider who'd stopped on the verge of the A3400 near Stratford waving at dusk about the speed trap around the corner

Empty dry roads with plenty of fast corners and an old GSXR 750.
