I think a must for most bikes is to get the suspension sorted, i.e. replaced. A properly sprung rear shock for your weight and decent internals, along with new springs and vales in the front will transform any bike.

Also a hell of a lot cheaper than going for the ohlins-specific model variant
I think its a must for the new Speed Triple but BMW, KTM etc etc have proved it isnt a "must " for everyone...
Usually, springs is all you need especially if you're built towards the "Powerfully built company director " end of the scale.
Most valving stacks are fine for road use and just need good setting up with the right springs and preload.
Vast majority of people couldn't tell the difference between top spec valving and a potato...

Bought a new toy near Wales so I thought I'd give it a good test ride

Stunning - I love those downpipes. thumbup

Shame the tail-can is so large though. One of my lasting memories from the 70s was a Z900 with a really small Piper 4 into one at Box Hill. It looked great and sounded fantastic, but probably would be a bit too loud these days!

Not really. It is massive on the Z900 but on the RS I think the standard can is quite reasonable.

Easily changeable either way.

Very nice - you kept that one quiet! Replacement for anything, or another addition?

Hence the word "most" in my statement...

Especially those with fancy ESA/Skyhook suspension, assuming they are good in the first place.

The KTM 790 adv is away, while a competent middle weight tourer it never really stirred my soul the way my previous KTMs have.

Just a couple of photos from Tuesdays Oulton Park trackday.
First visit there and easily now one of my favourite tracks, I loved it!
Also I'm really enjoying riding the CB500 on track... I think a winter project is looming to turn it into a budget racer idea

Is it daunting coming out of Lodge? I remember my Dad saying it was as it just drops away much quicker than it looks from trackside.

I didn't find it overly daunting but I quite enjoy elevation change. Even on the later sessions in the wet I wasn't too worried really then again, regardless of the bike I was riding I wasn't particularly fast so it may be worse the faster you go hehe

Paddock Hill bend at Brands drops away much faster, more steeply and for longer!

This has been in the planning for a couple of years, but what with several things like health and covid it’s only happening now.

And it’s a pain in the arse. The kit is pretty poor in terms of fittings etc so a day or two’s fitting is now 10 days of fabrication. I’m still happy it’s going to end up something great.

Few pics from our second trip to Snetterton and our first time racing in the BMB on the pitbikes at Pembrey, just epic fun in very different ways.

Snetterton was a fantastic day, minus my oil filter coming off at 165mph on Bentley Straight, bike and myself were covered from head to toe in delicious Silkolene, at first i thought the engine had let go, then on closer inspection we discovered the oil filter had undone due we think to vibrations being such a fast track, fresh oil, filter and some lock wire later we were back out, fastest lap was a 2:04.

Then our race weekend on the pitbikes, just non stop action and fun, we weren't competitive with the top 15, but we didn't expect to be, but managed a best result of 15th, defintely something we'll be doing again and i'd recommend to anyone looking to get into some cheap racing.

Picked up the Speed Triple this morning after the dealer had it for a week to investigate the stalling issue, they updating the mapping, went over it and completed the first service , I had to visit a customer in Hertfordshire so took the bike, ran fine on the way down but then stalled and wouldnt restart on one of the busiest roundabouts in the county.

Pushed it up the pedestrian crossing and there we sat for a couple of hours, dealer(who I cant as yet complain about) picked me up , ive rejected the bike, no faith in it at all now , will think overnight if I want another Speed Triple or bin the whole idea for now..

A lad called Dennis from Watford stopped and fair play, went off to get me a drink and a sausage roll, nice to see that camaraderie in action. In the mele I forgot to pay him for the food and drink, if anyone knows Dennis drop me a PM!

A week on from this and despite earlier indications midweek("we're unpicking the deal" now) etc etc...Triumph are now for a reason i cant fathom, arguing the toss about my rejection of the bike.

Apparently, even thou when they collected it, it had the engine management light on, this COULD be down to excess fuel pressure in the system from my multiple attempts to start it...the bike is THAT delicate...

So they now say they need to replicate the fault...which occurs approx every 7-80 miles from my experience.

So I need to continue to pay finance on a bike I collected 1st Sept , stopped using 13th Sept and failed on me again first time I collected it the following week.

My Mrs said yesterday that it seemed I never had any issues with my old bikes(GSXRs etc) but both new bikes ive had of recent have needed warranty work...got me thinking , anyone got a Streetfighter GSXR1100 for sale?!biggrin

Triumph, or the dealership? I'd let Triumph themselves know that their franchisee isn't, perhaps, performing as well as they ought to be if it's the latter.

Sounds bloody ridiculous, a repeated CEL on a new bike is hardly 'normal'. Excess fuel pressure, utter rot and toss!
