New Honda Hornet revealed

I tested the new Triumph 1200 last year thinking it would have the beautiful turbine smoothness of my old Street Triple but they've changed the crank so it now feels like a lumpy twin.
Not sure why they did that but it's now made me consider a Ducati for the first time ever![smile](/inc/images/smile.gif)
It's so that it has more torque low down, better for off-road, which it is.Not sure why they did that but it's now made me consider a Ducati for the first time ever

MCN 'Shock Verdict'?
The MT-07 doesn't have the features or power but is more fun to ride?
When I went to look at a Hornet earlier in the week I saw an R7 in the white and red speed blocks anniversary colours. That's an MT-07 with better suspension but a semi racing crouch?
I may go to another motorcycle showroom tomorrow. They have a CF-Moto 700 with the enlarged Z650 motor in it. £6500 for one of those when the Hornet is £7058 OTR? makes the Hornet look good value. Add the Quickshifter and extended warranty for a year and you're about £500 away from the price of the new GSX-8S but the Honda has the Michelins and the Suzuki will be on Dunlops.

Or maybe not. Im not paying to read the whole review.
See my post from the twin thread-
New Transalp vid up from MCN. Michael Neeves says this engine proves parallel twins are not boring and Honda have struck gold. He thinks it’s an interesting and special engine. Making it more exciting than the MT07. Those are quotes.

I access MCN for free through my local public library login. It also gives access to a few other motorcycle magazines online. I find flipping through pages on a PC screen more difficult than handling a hard copy.
'Shock Verdict' is a click baity, sensational headline? A new product from Honda with more features and more power trumps an established favourite is hardly a shock.

I am looking to replace my 16 year old SV650S... I can't get past the looks of the Hornet.
Will go to check out the CB650R though.
Am worried that stepping up to 90bhp ish, after the 70ish of the SV650 isn't enough... I love my SV650 but can just pin it everywhere, if I get a new bike is 90bhp enough or should I got Ducati Monster for 110bhp and keep with a V-Twin... It is a lot more expensive though.

I've just had a calendar reminder pop up that I've got one of these coming for a few weeks tomorrow for a video review - will try to not be boring with it. ![biggrin](/inc/images/biggrin.gif)
If it's on Dunlops your thoughts on how they perform may be useful. The Michelin tread pattern looks very good. The roads and conditions in your first video compare to my local roads. If the Michelin is better in the rain I'd rather have the Michelins but you get what Honda give you. Is the Dunlop as good, or the Michelin just looks good and is the current must have tyre? ![biggrin](/inc/images/biggrin.gif)
Visited a showroom this week. Hornet orders taken now likely to be delivered April/May. I don't need to be an early adopter but suppose there's a benefit in buying one now if they're not going to be £7K for long. No sign of the GSX-8S and opinion was it may have missed the boat for this 'season'.
I'm tempted to wait until used ones appear on the right rubber and see how the GSX-8S is reviewed. I'll see if any bargains appear in the last two weeks of the financial year. There's some tasty low mileage used stuff out there that appeals more for £7K, with a year's extended warranty and the quickshifter it's £7.5K.
Seen a few videos this week on the translap. Wont say which one was any good but a few were tedious...
I would like a translap based on what they have said. Only problem so far is nobody is brave enough to tell you if the bash guard is alloy or some sort of plastic.
Its amazing what you can get now. Everybody raved about the ancient africa twin but its leagues behind the new 1100 one offroad.
The translap is lighter than the AT as well so should do ok compared to the old bike. Nearly twice as powerful as well.
The only think lacking is being 25 and bendy.

Sorry I read the post as saying the MT was more fun to ride.
No apology necessary, you were right. It's not a shock the Hornet beats the almost teenage MT07. I've read the article. I didn't zoom in on the test route map with the comments on. It's a whitewash for Hornet with only two minor gripes about stuff on the handlebars, one of which I've seen mentioned in a YouTube review and the other you could address with after market parts if you wanted. The Hornet was about was about about 2MPG less juicy and did about 30 miles more than the MT07 before flashing the low fuel warning came on. I may've speed scanned the article but it repeatedly mentioned the quickshifter on the Hornet which isn't standard and wan't something the MT-07 has.

Michael Neeves has, in my memory, never said anything bad about a bike, at least not one that's likely to be advertised in MCN or a manufacturer he might like to borrow bikes from again. Same for tyres. MCN like most reviewers need to borrow bikes again so can't say anything bad. But, a twin in the mid range being 'interesting and special' is a definite dive towards the bottom even for him !

Tim Rodie rides bikes - YouTube. They're mostly inspired by stories from a few years back of some influencers going on a Fiat 500 (I think) launch and some of them didn't even have driving licences, and were just paired up with car journos and asked to have their photos taken repeatedly with the car. To be fair they probably got more reach than some of the car publications invited.
