Just a quickie:
My mum just called saying that she's on the verge of buying a new-shape 3-series coupe but as she keeps her cars for ages is worried that a newer shape may come out within a couple of years.
Anyone any idea?

Or suggestions of other cars - she basically wants something pretty and comfy sporting a badge with snob value and couldn't care less how fast it is. She was quite taken with my suggestions of an X-Type or Merc C-Class coupe. The MINI suggestion did not go down well...

Why does she not look at the 1 Series as you know that will have status for a few years. I can not remember the timetable for replacing the 3 but its got to be soonish as the design is quite old now!

Replacement is just around the corner, saloons in the autumn, coupe at Christmas, with M3 coupe and M4 saloon rubberstamped for next January iirc.

bit premature mate

new 3 is March (ish) 2005, coupe and convertible are generally a little after the saloons. M3 or M4 whichever they badge it will be after the main cars... usually 18months to 2 years.

3 series will designate saloon and touring
4 series will be coupe and convertible

m4 will be a v8 - something to do with homolagating the car due to an american race series.

so there may not even be an m3... just a dirty rumbly v8 M4.. who knows they change their minds daily...

cheers
