Standard M5 brakes, while equivalent in size to that of a normal everyday proletarian chicken chasing family car's entire wheel, and while being hugely effective at reining in what is, after all a 2 ton car.. just aren't up to much when really pressing on, tending to overcook following repeated heavy use down a twisty road, ultimately inciting fade, hatred & frowny faces all round,

I've been offered a complete set of used 'movit' brakes for the uberpanzer complete with porsche 993turbo 4-pot callipers & braided hoses for the princely sum of €4,000.. is this cheap? (£2,700'ish sterling) and more importantly, are they any good ?

I suppose my biggest concern is the (wrongly?) perceived impression of downgrading from a 342mm (floating disc) to smaller (single piece) 322mm discs.. any ideas? no doubt a terrific upgrade for the likes of a 530i etc.. but the M5 ?

Standard solution to the M5 brakes is an upgrade to AP Racing's finest 6 pots on a 343mm grooved disc (using the CP5555-1001 caliper). Costs just under £1900 plus fitting. Job done.

Why don't you give Joe at HyperTurismo a call, he's the main agent for products such as Supersprint exhausts and AP brakes for BMWs in the UK. His number is 0870 080 81 82.

You can also chat to other M5 owners or search the archives for what others have done on the M5 Forum of www.bm3w.co.uk and www.bmwm5.com.
