Well, the Cerb has gone as the Mrs would not drive it so now it's a Z4 (3.0 version) as that's the only car she said she will drive. She was basically sh!t scared of the Cerb so it had to go (I did offer to leave myself ).

Anyway - I don't need any TVR biased comments like get a Tamora instead and the like but I need some feedback from current Z4 owners.....good and bad!!

I think thats a feasable move, you wont notice much difference in power or styling plus with a BMW you have your own lane on the Motorway

I don't think you have to pay for unnecessary accessories, either.

Okay - prepared to get a flaming here.

Have a Z4, got it last July when it came out. Love it to pieces as:

1. It is reliable
2. It is fairly quick - I have the 3.0
3. It is fairly practical (as you can be in a two seater with a ragtop)
4. It has all the right toys (climate / leather etc)

email me if you want to know more / have a look at it.

The Z4 3.0 is a nice piece of kit.

Pretty quick, makes a nice noise, and very well made. Its like a nice Swiss watch.

Dealers are great too.

Have had extended use of a couple of them. Only the need for more seats stops me having one.

Just an idea -- but a fully loaded new Z4 3.0 is about the same price as the Alpina Roadster Z4. 300 hp !!

The only thing i hear of is criticism of its styling

but as that down to the individual it doesn't matter!!

I assume you've test-driven a Z4?

I tried to but i'm too big! 6ft2 and very broad in the shoulders (oh err ) so i just couldn't get comfortable. Not really a problem as i couldn't buy one... i'm only 20!

I have a couple of friends who have between them a Z4 3.0, S2000 and a Box 's'. I have just sold my 4.0 Chim. They all loved the look and sound of the Chim but no of them would ever have one...ever... As i won't ever have another. We all have to use the cars daily for work on a varity of roads. They can get in their respective car, start it, go, stop it, start it etc with no problems. The TVR on the other hand is a bit more special and isn't as good as any of the others as a daily driver - it's more like my motorbike - excellent for a sunny day blast. But not ideal for everyday use.

Out of the other three the Honda is the best. The Z4 has to much anti BMW stuff going on with it, and the Boxter is tooo common by far. The Honda is a less common and looks more like a classic TVR shape - long noise, cabin short ish boot. Still pretty big not quite as good as thwe chim's but you know it'll always start!

I'd have thought that if all you want is something that is "fairly" quick with leather and air-con the choice is wide open not restricted to the Z4?

What about a Lexus SC430? That's a convetible, has aq fair amount of electric gizmo's, must be reliable, and is fairly ugly? Rich...

Unless of course for Derrent's wife it's a "badge thing"

No, it's not a badge thing - we have had about 5 BMW's (run of the mill coupes) so she feels more confortable with something she already knows inside out...

I went through the same analysis last summer. My thoughts were:

1. Boxster 'S' - I like my toys (my Zed has Sat Nav, Bluetooth phone, Xenons, 18" wheels etc etc) - a similar spec Box would have been not far short of £45k!!! Instantly ruled out.

2. S2000 - Cracking car. Two issues - has little safety kit (no traction control / stability control) which I think is essential. Especially as this car is driven by different people who may not be as "prepared" for a 3.0 rwd car biting them on a slippery surface. Also, there are a lot of imports of the S2000 and I think this may knock residuals.

3. The Z4 just looks different - some love it, some hate it. I think it is great - you need to see one in the flesh as the photos don't do it justice.

As for stone chips, not too bad.

I was in a similar situation.
My other half did not like the Tuscan so it had to go.
I am taking delivery of a Z4 Alpina Roadster S next week, Maldives Blue with the Lux Pack. Having owned TVR's previously I am looking forward to driving a Car without the constant anticipation that something may go wrong. The styling on the Alpina looks great. We are driving over to Le Mans next month, down to Bologna via Geneva, and then up to the Nurburgring before heading home via Brugge. The Alpina, a Tuscan S and a "loaded" Skyline, it should be a great run out.
