I was thinking something to do with the fuel filter as well but as for the pump I don't understand what could be wrong with it possibility of something clogging it? and the car only has 75xxx miles on it so I didn't think the pump would already be going out and that's about all the info I can give if you have any ?s I could answer them

if the brushes in the motor are worn, it could conceivably operate slower than it should, this results in lower fuel pressure, and starvation when you accelerate
there is probably a schrader valve on the fuel line to connect a pressure gauge to, checking the fuel pressure is a must.

My '96 MX5 had a similar issue soon after I bought it.
New spark plugs and HT leads sorted it. Cheap fix and only took half an hour.
I had a Golf Gti with same problem, new rotor arm, dizzy cap, leads and plugs fixed it.New spark plugs and HT leads sorted it. Cheap fix and only took half an hour.
OP, does the car shake/ run on fewer cylinders under load? Try running engine in the dark and look for arcing from leads.
