I'm pretty sure my mate's pre evo saloon doesn't have one although I'm not sure if the specification is the same as on those compared with the coupes and cabs.

Track car perchance??

I'm tall and an odd shape so do not fit in my 996 wearing a crash helmet. Because of this I have been precluded from doing UK trackdays, which has been fine because I just did a few trips to Nurburg instead. No w I am having a problem getting insurance on the Porsche for the Ring so am thinking sod it. Let's get a £6/7k M3, chuck in a lowered seat and harnesses etc and insure it third party for the road and do some UK trackdays instead.

Can you really get e36's for this money??

Decent e30's trade for this but haven't (yet!) seen worth while e36 examples.

Take a look in PH classifieds. (I never mentioned it being a decent one, just something to thrash on a track.)

You can get excellent examples from about £7.5k upwards.

Residuals are shot at the moment. PLus everybody and his dog have bought an E46 M3, there are plenty on the market.

Thanks Francis. I'm looking at the sunroof more from a loss of headroom angle rather than loss of rigidity, although it is good to see that this too can be sorted.

Seen it in the adverts. Once I have called by my BMW mechanics workshop to check on headroom etc (hopefully next week), I'll bear your car in mind. Mileage does look a bit high though!

Now that inspires me to a thought.
Daz, how often do you visit Nürburgring? What do you think about a small flat + garage somewhere between a 'budget carrier'-destination airport (eg Frankfurt-Hahn) and Nürburgring?
You'd buy an LHD M3 in Germany and register it to your flats adress, getting the advantage of more liberal insurance (from the impression I have), and not having to drive all the way from the UK (which takes 18-ish hours two way!?). You fly to Germany saturday morning, pick up your M3, do some driving, stay in your flat, do some driving again and fly back sunday evening.

The last time I crossed the channel, it cost well above GBP150 + fuel + time. Flying with Ryanair is cheaper for two
I don't know your circumstances, but a permanent adress abroad may help your business in a fiscal way too

Bodo, I've said it before and I'll say it again; you are a genius. If and when I get the M3 running and insurance to cover third party liability insurance, leaving the car in Germany for "the season" would definitely be the way to go. I can get daily flights from my local airport (15 mins away) into frankfurt. As for accomodation I don't need to buy a place as I have a bloke who I now consider to be a mate who runs a guesthouse at £15/20 per night only 20 minutes from the Ring. Storage of the vehicle can be arranged at a local garage from as little as £30 per month.

All of this though comes down to resolving the third party liability issue in a cast iron manner.

It 's a funny thing but most people don't realise how bumpy Kesselchen is. Of course driving it knowing the lines with 450bhp, 4WD and PSM does tend to enlighten a driver.....

Hopefully calling off at a BMW mechanics next week to look at the space etc available in E36 before searching with a view to buyin one. I'll be meindful of your sunroof comments.
