Dear Friends,

I would be most grateful for your comments on how much I should be paying for the following (pristine) example of this (fast becoming) classic:
-----------------------------------------------------
F Reg BMW 6 Series 3.4 635 CSi
schwartz black with light grey leather, Coupe, 2 Doors, automatic, two keepers from new with only 20k miles from new with full BMW service history, fully original in concourse condition, please telephone for details,a true classic for only £?????.
-----------------------------------------------------

In my opinion, if this car is really in concourse condition and runs perfectly (I suppose a BMW inspection is wise!), I should expect to pay maybe £12k. Other views??

One with 30k on the clock just went for 10k and it was a concours winner for the past 5 years. I would say no more than 12k. Even with that low mileage you have to look for rust as if it is rusty (Wings, Jacking points, rear arches floor) then the car should be much less. The only worry i would have is that the car has not been used and these old cars work best if they are used often.

...thanks for the response - that's my main concern too. I suppose it's wiser to buy a much cheaper, higher mileage, well maintained car and keep funds in reserves for unforeseen repairs. Should I shy away from cars >100k miles?

Absolutely not.

They are solid lumps, no doubt about it.

Are you going to be using it as a daily concern? If not, then get a higher mileage version and enjoy it.

I have seen fantastic F and G plate highlines bring about £8k with upto 100k on the clock. A better prospect in my eyes.

...I was planning on using the car as a daily driver, but am still wary of buying a 635 with VERY low miles. Would a full BMW inspection uncover potential problems caused by low use - such as dried seals, etc.?

Don't let my comments put you off. If the car is low mileage everything will have been worked less and as has been said mechanically these cars are bullit proof. What you buy a six on is condition and rust and not mileage. Sure a low mileage car will be worth more up to a point, but whats important is that the car has been properly maintained. If the car you are looking at is low mileage, well maintained and rust free, if it's under 10 k it will be a good buy. Just remember even the best six series will need money spent on it. A friend of mine has just bought a 29k M6 Highline for £17.5K. He has had it two weeks and has put on a new exhaust and had the car waxoiled. He also had to condition the leather, but that was it.

I have probable one of the best sixes in the country and it's that way because i have put the car through a no exspense spared rolling restotaion. Have a look at my username and car photos to get an idea of some of the stuff i have done on my car.

...thanks for you advice. Unfortunately, the small dealer that has it is insisting on £15k!! It's on SOR with them and is owned by a personal friend of the owner of the dealership.

They say the owner is a real enthusiast who keeps is covered, doesn't use in the rain, blah blah. It is in mint (as new) condition, inside and out, full documented service history. Schwarz black exterior, grey leather interior. 20k miles. All original.

There are a lot of other cars that can be bought for £15k! They're taking the p@ss, methinks, hoping someone comes along who simply falls in love with it!

The car does not happen to be at Munich Legends does it. The guys there have great cars, but sell them for serious money.

If you want a nice 6 there are a number of good ones for sale on the bmw car club web site including a very rare manual Highline in red with lotus white interior for 6k and the car has 60 something K on the clock. Have a look at www.bmwccgb.co.uk What you want is a car that has been looked after by a fanatic. These are the best cars.

Mmmm

Well, with cars like this, its only worth what someone will pay for it.

Personally, I think they are cashing in on teh rebirth of the 6.

You can get a mint B10 BiTurbo with that money, and have change for an E30 M3 track car!

That may be true, but the six generally is begining to creep up in value. Vertainly the new car is helping this
