I've got my 840 insured with Direct Line.

I've changed the alloys from stock to Alpinas and they now want to put my policy up 30% for the priveledge regarless of the wheels I put on. Even if I put on steel wheels it would go up by 30% as it is a MODIFICATION.

In my mind that is madness.

Anyone got a good insurance company for Bimmers ?

With out a doubt Liverpool & Victoria
www.liverpoolvictoria.co.uk/

Saved me a packet on an M5, you have to be over 30,

don't mind mods and do track days

Very sensible grown up apprach to insurance not like the Grabmirals and Eletesco BellPrivailige , who all seem to be the same company under different names.

Cheers
Grant

You think that's good.

BMW Insurance quoted me an £1000 policy increase and a £1000 excess increase if I put a different back box on my M3!

As I'm not 30 I can't use L&V .. wish I could!

Cheers Grant... belting refferal.

Just called Direct Line and told them to get stuffed -I've just taken out policy at £750 with Liverpool Victoria

You were so right about their grown up policy with mods.

I got £2K Alpina wheels on my car and 3:15LSD rear diff upgrade. They said this made no difference to premium except I needed photos to prove I had the Alpinas on the car if it / they get nicked.

Oh and by the way Tesco quoted me £850 and then £1250 when they heard about the wheels ...

RESULT !!!

LV don't now like increased capacity engine mods tho- they used to do 'em, but not doing it now, which is a slight bummer.

Flux seem to be the only people who will touch you with increased capacity mods.

So as long as I only add a turbo, supercharger, or new cams & software to my M5 I should be fine then

M five, yes you may well be ok, they diddnt mind any of the other mods on my bimmer, just not the fact the engine had gained 2 cylinders and a few cc's.

So you will prob be ok, well as long as you don't bung in an engine from something up the BMW range a bit, like hmm let me see, oh yes like the BMW v12 as fitted to a certain Mclaren..

I know of one guy who now has a '550i' which was basically a 525 with a 5L v12 engine transplant from a 750/850 that he then had tuned to get 'over' 400bhp.

The only problem I can see with that is that BMW seem to charge repairs by the cylinder, so he it will cost him at least double for repairs compared to mine!
