Hi all,

Bit baffled as to the naming convention going on with the 323 models, why aren't they 325 as they've got the 2.5 block in them?

Cheers,
Rob

I think it was to distance it from the 328.

Now you have the the 2-litre 4-cylinder 318 and the 2.2-litre 6-cylinder 320, as well as the 325 and 330.

depends which model of 3 you're talking about. If it's the old one then the 323 and 325 had the same size of engine but in different states of tune.

its to do with which badges they own the rights to alledgedly. also which they deem looks nicer. ie 320i looks better than 322i

as well as the distancing thing too

Ah well, typical bonkers marketing then!

Sorry should have said mid 90's 3 series Touring model which AFAIK isn't available as a 325 anyway. But can the 323 2.5 be tweaked up to the regular 2.5 tune?

Still think I'd prefere a 5 series touring, keeping my eyes open for the 'elusive as rocking horse poo' manual 525TDS with less than NASA mileage and under £5k.

Cheers,
Rob

I've got an E46 323i which is 2496cc on a 99(T) I believe the 325i badge came in, in 01. Crucial difference to note though, is that 323 pre 01 had 170bhp whereas the slightly newer 325 post 01 has 192bhp, about another half a second on the 0-60.

thats suprising,my 1984 e30 had 150bhp as std from 2318cc and the 0-60 time was aparently half a second faster than the 325i with a slight reduction on top-end speed.....and yes,ive tried it and it did pull away from the 325 upto just over 80mph,then he crawled back, eventually overtaking me as i hit 110)......but that was when i was young and carefree (about 3 years ago)
