Sick of the cacky brakes the Munchen munchers put on this alleged super saloon, I've been seeking Porsche style retardation for those 'bend approaching rapidly' moments...

Sooo, giving the Tech9 massive a quick bell, it seems that Performance Friction do a pad for said mobile.

These b'stards may squeak like an acid-inspired extra from the set of 'Deliverance' but if they work anywhere near as well as they do on the Porker, I shall be more than delighted.

Does anyone have any experience of these on something similar and do I need to upgrade the hoses too?

(And are the discs themselves generally thought to be adequate? I really don't understand manufacturers making otherwise superb cars with brakes by Big Ears.)

Having just taken my E39 M5 touring on a trackday I am in total agreement with you - the brakes are hardly worthy of a Ford Model T. Such a shame as the rest of the car is fantastic.

As an alternative to the pads you could always look at one of the big brake conversions. I understand you can even get Porsche big reds to fit...

The Nurburg Ring Taxi uses standard BMW discs with Pagid pads, not sure what colour though.

It might not be the brakes, it may be the driver

I used to regularly cook the brakes on my e34 M5 and thought the only way around it was to upgrade the pads, discs, calipers, fluid and fit braided hoses.

I did the fluid and hoses, but the £3k cost of 360mm AP brakes put me off and was steered towards some track driving instruction (by ex-BTCC driver). After 2 sessions I was driving quicker, smoother and cleaner . . . and using the brakes less.

I've not had my brakes fade in two years since!

BTW Both Ferodo (DS2500/DS3000) and Mintex do some pads for the e34 and e39 - and they don't need lots of heat to work properly.

I have a e39 540 and as i understand m5 suspension as standard, i dont know whether the brakes are the same though.
