Can anyone let me know what the ratios are for e36 320 coupe and an M3? I am guessing that the box in an M3 was close ratio and the 320 not. Also which is the better M3 box the 5 or the 6 speed?

M3 EVO. Getrag 6 speeds.
1 4.227:1
2 2.528:1
3 1.669:1
4 1.226:1
5 1.000:1
6 0.828:1

Rear LSD diff 3.23:1

I haven´t had a NON-EVO E36 M3 but i think that the Getrag 5 speeds in the 3 ltr E36 M3 has almost or exactly the same ratios than the first 5 gears in the EVO. The rear diff is 3.15:1 IIRC.
Hope this helps

BTW, the ratios for the Getrag 6 speeds are the same for the M-cars: E36 EVO, E36 EVO SMG, E39 M5, E46, E46 SMG...The changes regarding ratios between them are merely final gear, overall wheel diameters and power delivery

The 5 speed box is stronger than the six speed, but if you put one in a 320 they will not be under any load. Not sure if they will fit though as i have not herd of the convertion being done before

Forgot to say that regarding gear linkage the 5 spd gearbox is MUUUUUUUUUCH better than the 6 spd.
