I am thinking about selling my 750 and purchasing a 840. What is the opinion of this car, anything I should look out for?

Excellent engine, the V8! Go for a later 4.4 (still called 840, but with Ci IIRC).
The engine doesn't feel to have less grunt than the V12, especially in combination with manual 6sp. box. Unfortunately, the manual box is very rare in combination with 840 RHD.

Here's a link to an excellent 8' site

7 looks great - 8 looks elegant and mean

Have fun and share the experience with us humble Golfers

Try not to hit people who say its a rich mans Ford Probe.

I like 'em in a perverse way. I'd rather have an E34 M5 though, faster, rarer (I think) and comes with a sonorous straight six engine.

Good solid cars, but exspensive to run. The car weighs nearly two tons and so brakes tyres and shocks wear out very quickly. Don't buy a 850 as it's no qucker than an 840 and even more exspensive. Unless you can get the 850csi which is basically a M8. This one has 385bhp as oposed to 300bhp 850 and 286bhp 840

Mate of mine has got an 850csi - 5.6 V12 and 380BHP - his also has a custome Hayward & Scott exhaust and sounds simply awesome!!

Faster than my M3 in a straight line, and remarkably agile too for something so HUGE - the 850csi has rear wheel steer and that really does seem to help.

This for the feedback, I took a look at 3 cars at the weekend and to put it politely were all “abused”.

There are some nice looking 8's for sale on www.635csi.co.uk/carsales/htm/8s.htm

Depends what you want to pay.

I have 97 840 and it is a dream - BUT it has Full BMWSH and Extended Warranty and is low mileage.

The car cost £55K new and the running cots are the same as buying a new car for £55K today. If you can - get one with extended warranty - it certainly helps.

important to get your hands on a copy of the proper set of workshop manuals for this type of car. One on mechanics and one on electricals. Also useful to have the BMW set of parts lists for the car, as the workshops don't seem to know these cars well
