A real stunner it is, the BMW M1. A true 70s supercar icon. BMW, the next please! There never was a Bee to follow which had such an impact on the street. I saw one a few weeks ago . . . Ferrari-league. Suggestions please!

Suggestions for the next BMW supercar. Will the Nazca be it? M3 and M5 are headturners if you know what's under the bonnet. But compared to a Zonda, Enzo, Lambo they lack the true supercars flair.

Given that the M1 was a complete sales failure and that the market is currently flooded with Supercars of any shape and size you like, I should think BMW will leave well alone.

How about a stripped out new M6? (once it's come out).

I was thinking more of a Z4 with a funky Ferrari Daytona-ish body . . . Stripped M6 with a mid-engine?

On track M1 was a success. Market may be flooded but BMW could do with a supercar next to the M's.

I'm not being pedantic (honest), but why?

BMW are very successfull at what they are currently doing, the 3 series outsold the Mondeo last year.

I'd rather they stuck to what they do best, than make a mid engine supercar which has no relavence to the cars I am likely to buy.

The Audi supercar concepts don't make it any more likely that I would buy one, until they start making cars which handle better.

They could colaborate with Williams possibly, and do a MCLaren, but why bother, they did it last time.

All IMHO of course.

Then again the M1 did spawn THAT engine.

I don't think, as has been, said they are interested. I take it when you refer to Nazca you are talking about the early nineties concept. The Nazca was, I think, intended by Italdesign to be a Bugatti but Bugatti weren't interested so they just slapped a kidney grille on and a BMW badge. I think though it looked fantastic and could have easily been a great looking BMW but it never happened. Also a bit of sad trivia, that car is still driven almost every day and has racked up average car mileage.

tbh I don't know, I just remember reading an article somewhere about what happens to concept cars after they have been shown and they used this car as an example of the fact that some are used on the road. More than that I can't tell you.
