I have and old (88) e30 cab. It has be sat wasting away in my garden for the past 4 years and is looking terrible. I wont ever part with the car So I have been thinking of giving it a new breath of life with an m3 complete kit. Can anyone advise of these kits were to get a good one and how to fit as some of the companies i have spoken with can supply but not to good when it comes to fiting.

It's going to take a Pro to make any of the M3 kits available look remotely respectable they will all be fibreglass and will not fit first time, they will require a lot of 'fitting' and it'll never really look like an M3 as the steering wheel will be on the wrong side
If you really want to fit a kit on it, I'd go for the M-Tec kit which if your feeling flush, or can find in a breakers is original BMW kit, again cheap fibreglass copies can be bought but again what you save on the kit you pay for in fitting

I had a m3 body kit on an old 2.7 e30. I would tend not to do it. - All you are doing is making a lookalike. you will spend loads of money in fitting and paint, and it will never be the same as the real thing. If you are so set on sending money buy a real one!

otherwise just get subtle mtec kit, or even better spend money under the bonnet.

I'd suggest you get an M tech 2 kit (see my profile) - or just sell it and get a 318iS. i tell people its a baby M3!

The kit certainly isnt cheap though, ive just had half of it and its cost me a grand all in. Looks like new now though.

will be updating piccies shortly.

I have a few cars at the moment, 911 cab, fontera 3.2 v6, 325i e36 and this old 325i cab. I have had the cab for many years and intend to keep it many more. I have to say its more fun than the Porsche.

I like the m3 look of the e30 and I feel the car on my drive is going to waste. I want to convert it for my pleasure only and not to pretend it’s an m3 or for values. I actually intend to keep this car forever if that’s possible. Lots of youth full memories in it. I am intent on doing this. One reason is when you want to buy something like the e30 m3 and the same as when I bought my Porsche.

All you hear is there rare look for a good one and because you want one at that time you pay the premium. But go to sell it and the dealers you went to say not wanted any more and offer you always crap compared to what you have paid for one. I have had the Porsche for less than a year and have lost about 5k on it. So I am not doing that again. So if you lot can offer any advice on were to get a good kit from and any pitfalls with fitting please let me know

OK, if you want it. Then there is a company in Bradford. I think it is Auto Technic. They used to sell the kits, and I am sure probably still will. Front wings are easy as they replace the current ones. The rear quarters will be harder as theses effectively stick on over the old ones. This is where you can get problems with bonding coming unstuck as the car flexes.(mine did this!). Cany advise on fitting it though, I am sure there must be plenty of max power places who will have a go.

Also it is gonna cost. New deep front valance, 2 front wings, 2 rear quarters, side skirts.rear bumper, rear wing etc. must be circa £1500 for the kit, and budget another £1500 at least for fitting and painting. Another point of note is you will need new rims! - It will look stupid with the std 7" rims. - you will need 8" front rims and possibly 9" rears.

I applaud your approach, that it is just for you, and is a personal thing with the car. - Good luck and let us know how she goes.

If Auto Tecknik is the same company as Auto Tint Design then......

abloke on another forum said:
For the benefit of anyone who is thinking of buying a GRP kit please DO NOT go to Autotint design! I finally after a month of waiting (when I was advised it would be with me within 7 days) recieved my E30 M-tech kit around lunch time. The kit inside the box is the poorest quality kit I have ever seen! The rear bumber has cracks on both corners & the the sides & exhuast exit are a bodge job made with filler the door pods are mainly filler to! Now they're saying if I return the kit I have to pay for courier costs & a further 15% of the overall cost will be charged for administration! I was aware that the kit will need prepping & some adaptations. but overall I am really unhappy with the product & the customer service.

But on here theres this advert (which might be of use)

21/Jan/2004 - E30 M3 BODY KIT ORIGINAL - For sale front wide arch original steel arches to fit E30 £ 150.00 for both arches. Hence no rear arches. ALso original front apron £150.00 rear bumper £100.00 rear boot spoiler orignal £ 125.00 quick sale needed please call 07811782802 or 0778228451 near heathrow.

None of it is anything to do with me I'm just passing on the info

But I have had a fiberglass rear M-Tech spoiler from AutoTint Design and it was well worth going to pick it up as the quality difference in aftermarket 'copy' bodykits can vary wildly, the best one they had still gave my fitter a few problems and that was just a simple spoiler not a complete kit
If you can get hold of original bits, although I doubt M3 bits are readily avalable do it, what you spend extra on the kit you'll save on the fitting, I also had copy M3 skirts on my E36 and they caused a lot of headaches

You'll also need to alter the rake of the rear windscreen (less) and increase the height of the boot unless you want to look like a pikey.

Fergus - it's a cab so MP won't have these problems.

Majestic - if you want to do a pukka job of it you can buy the panels from BMW as all the m3 cabs were based on 325i's.

As previously mentioned, the front wings are bolt on jobbies but the rear wings will have to be cut and welded on.

I've seen one of these conversions before and other than the fact that it was rhd and sounded like a 6 cyl I had to look very carefully at it to work out it wasn't original but I s'pose also it's down to the guy who does the work.

Speaking to the owner the fidly bits were the sill covers and the inner wheel arch liners. You may also find that you'll need someone with a real e30 m3 cab to lend you his chassis number to get the parts from BMW - some of them are a bit fussy. He also had a set of 3 piece BBS x-spoke alloys made up with the suitable off set to fill the arches (that's usually what gives the car away).

I doubt you'll get much change out of £8k for this work and for that money plus a bit more you could have the real thing.

IMHO I'd put an M tech 2 kit on it - they look better and I never see any around anymore
